<p>Summary</p> <p>The Writing Center Coordinator/Instructor of English manages the daily operations of the university writing center, including scheduling all aspects of the Writing Center's instruction as well as supervising and mentoring writing tutors. The Writing Center Coordinator/Instructor of English also assists in the professional development of student writing tutors and writing center assessment and instructional design of the Writing Proficiency Exam. The Writing Center Coordinator/Instructor of English serves students, faculty, and courses within the disciplines and across the curriculum at Dillard University. The Writing Center Coordinator/Instructor of English should appreciate and understand the university's history and mission.</p> <p>Job Description:</p> <p>The Instructor of English and Director of the Writing Center is a full-time, twelve-month, non-tenure track faculty position that combines instructional and administrative responsibilities. The successful candidate will dedicate approximately 75 percent of their time to overseeing the operations, staffing, and strategic development of the Writing Center, and 25 percent to teaching undergraduate English courses, including composition and/or literature.</p> <p>This dual-role position offers an opportunity to supports student success through both direct instruction and academic support services, fostering a culture of writing excellence across the university. The appointment is effective August 1, 2025. The successful candidate reports to the Chair of the School of Humanities.</p> <p>Qualifications and Experience:</p> <p>The successful candidate must hold at least a master's degree in composition, Rhetoric, English, or a closely related field from an accredited institution; a doctorate is preferred. Ideally, the candidate will have a minimum of two years of experience working in a college-level writing center or teaching composition and/or literature. The candidate should demonstrate a commitment to student-centered teaching and learning, possess strong organizational and communication skills, and be capable of providing collaborative leadership in a diverse academic environment.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following and other duties may be assigned:</p> <ul> <li>Teach one section of writing per academic semester </li><li>Work to develop a place for creating a culture of writing at Dillard University </li><li>Work with all facets of writing instruction at Dillard University to facilitate deliver, assessment, and effective use of writing resources </li><li>Consults with faculty and assists with teaching writing in the curriculum </li><li>Designs and conducts workshops and faculty consultations on the teaching of writing </li><li>Manages daily operations of the writing centers including schedules and budgets </li><li>Hires, supervises, and trains student tutors. </li><li>Stays current with innovations in the field of writing center studies </li><li>Conducts writing center program assessments </li><li>Oversees the development and implementation of policy in the writing center tutor handbook </li><li>Maintain confidential advising records </li><li>Utilize information systems, as necessary, to aid in the delivery of writing services </li><li>Serve as a member of appropriate college and/or university advisory committees </li><li>Creates Writing Center content for and updates the website and social media sites on regular basis </li><li>Participate in recruitment activities </li><li>Use Microsoft Office, Google Drive, and other technology </li><li>Work some nights and weekends, particularly during scheduled advisement/registration periods and orientation </li><li>Perform other duties as assigned by the Chair of the School of Humanities, the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, or the University President </li></ul> <p>SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES</p> <p>Work-study students, if assigned</p> <p>ADDITIONAL SKILLS</p> <p>Ability to cultivate and sustain relationships with diverse audiences. Strong written and verbal communication skills</p> <p>PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES</p> <p>Sit at a desk and use hand, wrist, and finger movements to operate a computer regularly. Talk and listen to current and prospective students, colleagues, and other individuals regularly. Stand and walk around the office and other campus facilities as needed. Lift and carry general supplies weighing up to 5 lbs.</p> <p>ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS</p> <p>General office conditions; moderate noise level</p>
