<p>Job Description:</p> <p>osition: Director of Beacon and Duenweg Education Center</p> <p>Term: 11 Month</p> <p>Classification: Certified/Exempt</p> <p>Qualifications:</p> <p>Missouri Administrator certification</p> <ul> <li>Missouri Special Education Teacher certification </li><li>Excellent oral and written communication skills </li><li>Valid driver's license </li><li>Preference will be given to successful administrative experience and proven leadership skills and extensive experience working with students with significant behavioral needs </li><li>Preference will also be given to candidates with Special Education Administrator certification </li><li>Proven track record of being able to define and implement evidence-based programs designed to guide school improvement vision for special education population, preferred </li><li>Demonstrated proficiency in teaching and facilitating adult learners, supervision and evaluation of employees and data management, preferred </li></ul> <p>Supervisory: Yes</p> <p>Reports to: Director of Student Services</p> <p>The Beacon School is a day program which provides a placement option for students with severe emotional disorders or chronic behavioral difficulties from cooperative-member school districts. Member districts refer students to this program when the students' behaviors are too severe to be successfully addressed in their home school districts. Joplin Schools acts as the fiscal agent, thus all Beacon staff are employees of Joplin Schools.</p> <p>Skills/Behavioral Competencies</p> <ul> <li>Outstanding interpersonal skills </li><li>Ability to work well with all stakeholders </li><li>Ability to work in a team environment with an unrelenting focus on the issues of equity, access, and instructional excellence for improved student achievement </li><li>Excellent communication skills; speaking, writing listening </li><li>Superior organizational skills </li><li>Strong analytical, detailed planning, and project management skills </li><li>Ability to grasp concepts quickly, innovate, and think beyond traditional methods </li><li>Curious and creative by nature </li><li>Proactive, self-motivated, flexible and able to self-supervise/work independently </li><li>Detail-oriented while maintaining sight of big picture </li><li>Strong work ethic </li><li>Highest ethical and professional standards </li><li>Willingness to continually learn new information and skills </li></ul> <p>Essential Functions:</p> <ul> <li>Coordinate services for eligible students from sending schools </li><li>Work collaboratively with consortium superintendents and special education director to ensure quality education for applicable students </li><li>Develop, monitor, and evaluate assigned personnel growth plans </li><li>Assist in the training, supervision and evaluation of certified and support staff as assigned </li><li>Supervision of instruction </li><li>Making hiring recommendations to the Board </li><li>General supervision of students </li><li>Maintaining building records </li><li>Preparation and management of the building budget </li><li>Creation and update of student handbooks in conjunction with area special education directors </li><li>Positive interaction with students, parents, and all other stakeholders </li><li>Administration of student discipline </li><li>An individual who holds this position is expected to attend any required meetings, and other student activities when applicable </li><li>Coordinate the preparation of monthly board report </li><li>Coordinate the referral process for potential students including making sure referral packets are complete </li><li>Attend IEP meetings, be prepared to be the LEA </li><li>Support new case managers in scheduling of IEP/Eval meetings, completion of IEP documentation, and completing quarterly progress </li><li>Support new teachers with recording grades in the student information system </li><li>Approval of leave for staff </li><li>Approve timesheets for hourly employees, fix time sheet errors </li><li>Other duties as assigned </li></ul> <p>Physical Demands</p> <ul> <li>Ability to lift up to 50 pounds </li><li>While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, talk, and hear. </li><li>Required to frequently stand or sit. </li><li>Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception. </li></ul> <p> </p> <p>You are navigating off of REAP site to the district's posting.</p> <p>OK</p>
