<p>Centralia Elementary School District</p> <p>JOB TITLE: School Psychologist Reports to: Executive Director, Student Services. POSITION SUMMARY: Under general direction of the Executive Director of Student Services, carries out the responsibilities of a School Psychologist. While performing services at a school site, the School Psychologist is under the immediate direction of the site administrator. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: - Must possess a Pupil Personnel Services Credential in School Psychology. - Must have a valid California driver license, have an automobile with current California insurance, and submit to a Department of Motor Vehicle check as required. - Must see well enough to read fine print, drive, observe child(ren) across room and/or playground and have normal color perception. - Must hear well enough to understand normal conversation in classroom, on playground, and multipurpose room. - Must speak well enough to project voice through classroom, playground, and multipurpose room. - Must have adequate body movement or mobility to move throughout school, take cover under table, sit on floor, and move swiftly to respond to emergency. - Must have use of hands and fingers to write, administer first aid, and manipulate equipment. - Must be able to lift/carry objects and/or children up to 50 pounds. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Ability to speak Spanish. - Ability to communicate by using sign language. - Knowledge of Hughes Bill requirements. - Knowledge of all areas of special education. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Administers to pupils (on an individual basis) intelligence tests, achievement tests, personality tests, and tests to measure perceptual and motor development. - Evaluates and interprets assessments and makes recommendations for school and class placements under the supervision of the mentoring School Psychologist. - Conducts alternative assessment procedures. - Interprets test findings to parents, counsels with parents regarding pupil's potential, achievement level, and school adjustment; recommends to parents ways of helping pupil or recommends sources from which they may seek further assistance. - Participates in the development of IEP. - Confers with teachers, administrators, and other professional staff on findings of individual tests and helps them in their efforts to implement programs for students. - Consults with other agencies, both public and private, at the direction of the mentoring School Psychologist regarding individual cases. - Consults with other psychologists, psychiatrists, and physicians regarding individual cases. - Consults with other psychologists, psychiatrists, and physicians for the purpose of correlating available information regarding individual cases. - Makes recommendations in cases of exemption, nonpromotion, acceleration, and other cases upon request. - Participates as a member of the site crisis intervention team as needed. - Counsels individual pupils regarding academic problems, social or emotional problems. - Participates on School Study Team(s) as appropriate. - Writes complete assessment reports on each pupil assessed and maintains files; keeps required monthly records. - Participates in department meetings, school site meetings, and other community groups as a representative of the Student Services Department. - Provides in-service training to groups and sites requested. - Participates in district committees as requested. - Interprets and implements policies and regulations as they pertain to Special Education. - Participates in professional growth activities. - Performs other duties as assigned. DESIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES: - Ability to speak Spanish, or other second language. - Ability to work well with culturally and ethnically diverse populations including students, parents, staff, and community. - Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with staff, students and parents. - Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with parents, children, staff, and community members. - Ability to resolve conflicts constructively. - Ability to maintain confidentiality of student records and privileged communications. - Knowledge and respect for District philosophy and policies. - Knowledge of behavior management strategies. - Knowledge of both federal and state laws pertaining to special education and related programs. - Knowledge of various assessment instruments. - Ability to organize and schedule activities to coordinate with various school site and department functions. - Ability to travel between school sites and other locations. - Ability to provide leadership and stability for program continuity.</p> <p>MATERIALS General Qualifications: Applicants must possess a valid California pupil personnel services (school psychology) credential.
