<p>Overview</p> <p>The Powder Painter is primarily responsible for applying power coat paint to fabricated metal and other structural surfaces, using spray guns, brushes, and rollers. May be required to help in other production operations within the department. This is a skilled position requiring attention to detail, focus on safety and a willingness to learn a trade. We are willing to train a candidate that is looking for this type of challenge. Good housekeeping and organizational skills are an essential part of this role. Must be willing to learn automation on the Gema CM40 and 41 systems and all other controls of the paint booth.</p> <p>1st shift: 5:00a to 2:30p Monday through Friday</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Reads work orders and receives instructions from manager in order to determine work requirements. </li><li>Observes the metal product to determine if the metal surface contains any errors that needs repair prior to paint application. </li><li>Applies paint, wet and powder coat and other finishes to metal fabrication and/or structural surfaces, using brushes, spray guns. </li><li>Applies primers to prepare new surfaces or finish coats. </li><li>Mixes and matches colors of paint, wet and powder coat with oil and thinning and dying additives in order to obtain desired colors and consistencies. </li><li>Determines appropriate color for new or replacement jobs. </li><li>Maintains existing paint surfaces through matching and tinting of appropriate paint products. </li><li>Cleans equipment, paint mixing area, and work area. </li><li>Operates compressors, spray equipment, and other small power equipment. </li><li>Applies paints, preparatory materials, and undercoating materials to a variety of surfaces, as appropriate, and according to Materials Safety Data Sheets ensuring compliance with hazardous materials guidelines. </li><li>Identification, safe handling, and appropriate disposal of paints, stains, preparatory and undercoating materials, and other materials. </li><li>Keep paint booth and ovens clean and in good working order. </li><li>Responsible for filling out and managing all production, and quality documentation as required. </li><li>Follow all company rules, policies and regulations. </li><li>Ensure compliance with corporate and plant safety standards. </li><li>Other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Skill in the preparation and application of paints, powder coat and surface preparation materials to a wide variety of surfaces. </li><li>Exposure to a Lean manufacturing environment. </li><li>Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. </li><li>Ability to efficiently work in a team and coordinate work with other departments. </li><li>Aptitude to take orders and execute the same efficiently. </li><li>Demonstrated detail orientation, self motivation skills and ability to multi-task. </li></ul> <p>Education and/or Experience</p> <ul> <li>Previous experience working within a paint department; 2 years of wet spray, 2 years of power painting preferred, but will train </li><li>Some experience mixing wet paints </li><li>Knowledge of the tools, equipment, materials, and application techniques common to the painting trade. </li><li>High school degree, diploma or a GED equivalent qualification from is accredited institution. </li><li>Must have experience painting on a moving line in a manufacturing setting. </li><li>Strong basic math and computer skills. </li></ul> <p>Job Expectations</p> <p>Equipment Operated:</p> <p>Physical Demands</p> <p>Physical Activity:</p> <p>Activity</p> <p>N/A</p> <p>Occasionally</p> <p>Frequently</p> <p>Regularly</p> <p>Average lbs.</p> <p>Lift/Carry</p> <p>X</p> <p>25 lbs routinely, 55 lbs occasionally</p> <p>Push/Pull</p> <p>X</p> <p>25 lbs routinely, 55 lbs occasionally</p> <p>Reach Overhead</p> <p>X</p> <p>Comments:</p> <p>Climb</p> <p>X</p> <p>Squat/Bend/Kneel</p> <p>X</p> <p>Sit</p> <p>X</p> <p>Stand</p> <p>X</p> <p>Walk/Move About</p> <p>Occasional: 1-2 hrs/shift Frequently 2-5 hrs/shift Regularly 5-8 hrs/shift</p> <p>Work Environment</p> <p>Regularly exposed to varying temperature conditions between 60-100 degrees Fahrenheit, loud noise, moving machinery parts, airborne particles, and fumes from production equipment.</p> <p>Equal Opportunity Employer - minorities/females/veterans/individuals with disabilities/sexual orientation/gender identity.</p> <p>PM17</p>
