<p>The mission of the Louisiana Department of Health is to protect and promote health and to ensure access to medical, preventive, and rehabilitative services for all residents of the State of Louisiana.</p> <p>Learn more about Louisiana Department of Health</p> <p>The Sanitarian 4 is a key public health leader responsible for implementing Environmental Health programs and ensuring safe, sanitary conditions throughout their assigned parish. This role conducts and directs inspections of food establishments, waste and sewage systems, and facilities such as schools, prisons, nursing homes, and daycares to ensure compliance with the State Sanitary Code. The position also manages complaint investigations, oversees program operations, and ensures accurate reporting of parish activities.</p> <p>Statewide fieldwork and frequent travel are essential components of this role. The Sanitarian 5 also supports emergency response efforts, works closely with public officials and community groups on environmental health issues, and maintains professional expertise through ongoing training. Qualified applicants dedicated to protecting public health are encouraged to apply.</p> <p>Possession of a current Louisiana Sanitarian's license plus one of the following:</p> <p>Three years of experience as a sanitarian; OR</p> <p>A master's degree in public health, food science, dairy science, environmental or sanitary science, or one of the physical or biological sciences plus two years of experience as a sanitarian.</p> <p>NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:</p> <p>Positions in the Molluscan Shellfish program require that applicants complete the Louisiana Boating Education program and be certified by the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.</p> <p>The official job specifications for this role, as defined by the State Civil Service, can be found here.</p> <p>Job Duties:</p> <ul> <li>Conducts inspections of retail food establishments, restaurants, and waste/sewage systems to ensure compliance with the State Sanitary Code. </li><li>Manages and oversees inspections of institutions such as prisons, schools, daycares, nursing homes, and waste disposal facilities to verify sanitary and hygienic conditions. </li><li>Investigates and resolves public health complaints related to unsanitary conditions or environmental nuisances. </li><li>Administers parish Sanitarian Services programs, including implementing guidelines, tracking productivity, and preparing activity reports to meet program goals. </li><li>Responds to environmental health emergencies, performing surveillance and monitoring activities and working with public officials and community groups as needed. </li><li>Maintains professional licensure and expertise through required training and performs additional duties to support efficient office operations. </li></ul> <p>Position-Specific Details:</p> <p>Location: Office of Public Health / Bureau of Sanitarian Services / Franklin Parish</p> <p>Appointment Type: This position may be filled as a Probationary or a Promotional appointment </p> <p>Cost Center: 3262209520</p> <p>Position Number(s): 83804</p> <p>How To Apply:</p> <p>No Civil Service test score is required in order to be considered for this vacancy.</p> <p>To apply for this vacancy, click on the "Apply" link above and complete an electronic application, which can be used for this vacancy as well as future job opportunities.
