The ideal candidate is passionate about education, thrives in a dynamic environment, and is eager to contribute to student success across all grade levels.</p> <p>Position Summary:</p> <p>As an In-House Substitute Teacher, you will play a vital role in maintaining instructional continuity and a positive learning environment when classroom teachers are absent. This position requires flexibility, strong classroom management skills, and the ability to engage students across a range of developmental levels from Pre-K through Grade 8.</p> <p>You will implement prepared lesson plans, support students' academic progress, and work closely with faculty and staff to uphold the school's standards of excellence.</p> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Valid CT teaching certification or BA degree in elementary education (or related field) or approval as a substitute teacher by Region One. </li><li>Strong interpersonal and communication skills. </li><li>Ability to adapt to various classroom settings and student needs. </li></ul> <p>Essential Functions:</p> <ul> <li>Supervise and manage classrooms effectively when teachers are absent </li><li>Understand and follow lesson plans </li><li>Use technology as directed by the teacher or administrator </li><li>Understand and apply health and safety protocols </li><li>Support students' academic and social-emotional development </li><li>Collaborate effectively with staff </li></ul> <p>Working Conditions:</p> <ul> <li>School setting serving students in PK through grade 8 </li><li>Daily assignments may vary across grade levels and subject areas </li><li>Requires flexibility, adaptability, and a student-first mindset </li></ul> <p>Physical Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Must be able to remain in a stationary position (standing or seated) for extended periods </li><li>Ability to move about the classroom and school building </li><li>Must be able to lift and carry instructional materials (up to 25 lbs) </li><li>Ability to supervise students during transitions, recess, and lunch periods (indoor/outdoor) </li><li>Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and provide supervision </li></ul> <p>Employment Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Criminal background and Department of Children and Families (DCF) records checks </li><li>Participation in Region One Professional Development Training </li></ul> <p>Salary/Hours/Work Year:</p> <ul> <li>Salary: $135/day </li><li>Hours: 8:30 a.m. to 3:20 p.m. </li><li>Work Year: Will follow the 2025-2026 school calendar (August 2024-June 2025); see the attached. </li></ul> <p>Benefits:</p> <ul> <li>Paid time off </li><li>Participation in professional development </li><li>No additional retirement or supplemental benefits </li></ul> <p>Application/Interview Procedure:</p> <ul> <li>Applicants will be screened on an ongoing basis; early applications are encouraged. </li><li>Interviews with a possible second interview and sample lesson. </li></ul> <p>For more information, please contact Principal Stephanie Magyar at (860) 435-9871 or via email at smagyar@salisburycentral.org.</p> <p>Regional School District No. 1 provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local laws.
