Clinical Support & Patient Care</p> <ul> <li>Perform routine patient care tasks: ADLs (bathing, toileting, ambulation, feeding, repositioning, etc.), vital signs, I&O, weights. </li><li>Conduct point-of-care testing (e.g., blood glucose), specimen collection, bladder scanning. </li><li>Apply/reapply telemetry monitors, TEDs/SCDs for HAC/PSI prevention, and simple dressings. </li><li>Manage restraints per protocol; insert/remove Foley catheters, straight catheters, and IVs; complete phlebotomy and "ticket to ride." </li></ul> <p>Advanced Clinical Skills (per department need)</p> <ul> <li>Competent in at least one: basic arrhythmia recognition, complex wound care, 12-lead EKG, and NG tube clamping/removal. </li></ul> <p>Unit Support & Operations</p> <ul> <li>Answer call lights and phones, pass meal trays, and transport patients (including cardiac monitored). </li><li>Report equipment malfunctions and complete department clerical duties. </li><li>May be in medication storage areas and transport medications between departments when accompanying patients. </li></ul> <p>? Instruction & Documentation</p> <ul> <li>Provide basic instruction to patients/families under RN supervision. </li><li>Accurately document care according to protocols. </li></ul> <p>Teamwork & Development</p> <ul> <li>Communicate learning needs; seek help with prioritization. </li><li>Contribute to quality initiatives and departmental projects. </li><li>Take ownership of assignments and problem-solving to support team efficiency. </li><li>High school diploma or GED </li><li>One of the following: </li><li>2 years of general healthcare experience and meets Patient Care Technician - Senior title criteria </li><li>1 year of general healthcare experience and enrolled in PT/OT/PA program with at least one clinical rotation completed </li><li>1 year of general healthcare experience and completed bachelor's degree in a health sciences field </li></ul> <p>Required Training and Competencies</p> <ul> <li>Completion of Patient Care Technician Specialist class </li><li>Completion of eRecord training </li><li>Completion of basic arrhythmia course and annual competency </li><li>Annual professional contribution (defined after hire) </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Nursing student who has completed one clinical rotation </li><li>Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic certification, or current enrollment in an EMT or Paramedic program </li><li>ACLS certification </li></ul> <p>Licensure & Certifications</p> <ul> <li>Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification based on AHA standards within 30 days of hire </li><li>Act 34 clearance </li></ul> <p>UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer: Disability/Veteran</p>
