Come see if we have the right position for you.</p> <p>The Building Services Department provides routine, intermittent and restorative cleaning for all academic, research, residence hall, and athletic facilities on campus. We strive to fulfill the university's mission by providing students, faculty staff with top quality academic, research and employment experiences by maintaining a clean, healthy environment for our customers who occupy and utilize the offices, classrooms, laboratories, student residential, and public areas.</p> <p>Position Summary</p> <p>Under the direct supervision of a Building Service Foreman, the Builder Service Worker performs the necessary custodial work to meet and maintain Building Services' high standards of cleanliness and sanitation. Perform other duties closely related to those defined in the class specifications.</p> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities</p> <p>Flooring Cleaning - 20%</p> <ul> <li>Dust mop, sweep, wet mop and scrub floors in a safe and professional manner always using caution signs </li><li>Clean, renew or renovate floor surface finishes spray buff, if necessary, to maintain a clean, high gloss appearance </li><li>Strip, scrub, neutralize and refinish floors as needed or as directed by the supervisor </li><li>Vacuum all carpeted areas regularly and extract and shampoo carpet as needed or as directed by the supervisor. Spot clean carpet stains as needed </li></ul> <p>Restroom Cleaning - 20%</p> <ul> <li>Clean, service, shine and sanitize daily, restroom floors, toilets, urinals and sinks </li><li>Clean, service, shine and sanitize restroom lights, walls, windows, mirrors, chrome surfaces, showers, tubs, vents and benches </li><li>Maintain soap and paper supplies each day. This must be done according to the department's restroom cleaning and sanitation procedures and with approved materials </li></ul> <p>Classroom & Office Cleaning - 20%</p> <ul> <li>Wash walls, clean and polish all furniture such as desks, filing cabinets, bookcases, shelves, doors, door frames, window frames, thresholds, pictures, lamps and phones with proper cleaners </li><li>Dust all horizontal and vertical areas as needed </li><li>Clean blackboards and erasers daily </li><li>Maintain chalk, erasers and paper supplies as needed in classrooms and labs </li><li>Clean and shampoo all upholstered furniture </li></ul> <p>Snow & Trash Removal - 20%</p> <ul> <li>Remove snow/ice from entryways and stairs, spread salt, pick up litter, trash, wastepaper and other debris from the interior of buildings </li><li>Develop a schedule for thorough cleaning of all waste containers </li><li>Empty recycling and garbage containers into appropriate receptacles </li></ul> <p>Glass Cleaning & Replacing Light Bulbs - 10%</p> <ul> <li>Clean all building glass and partitions and all outside glass as high as possible with extension poles while standing on the ground </li><li>Keep all elevator tracks clean, vacuumed and polished. Replace light bulbs, including exit lights in a safe manner </li><li>Clean the fixture and diffuser or lens when replacing bulbs </li></ul> <p>Operating Equipment - 5%</p> <ul> <li>Operate all equipment in a safe manner including automatic scrubbers and power sweepers (including rider type), all types of wet pick-ups and dry vacuums, power blowers, backpack vacuums, window washers and floor machines </li><li>Ensure that all equipment is cleaned and properly stored at the conclusion of each job and make sure the janitorial closets are clean and organized </li><li>Clean all floor pads after each use </li><li>Clean wet and dry mops and hang up in janitorial closets after each use </li><li>Change dirty mop heads as needed </li></ul> <p>Miscellaneous Duties - 5%</p> <ul> <li>Sweep and damp mop stairwells and landings on a regular basis </li><li>Clean railings and walls in these areas </li><li>Perform miscellaneous, related duties as assigned </li></ul> <p>Minimum Required Qualifications (Civil Service)</p> <ul> <li>High school diploma or equivalent. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) (Civil Service)</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of cleaning solutions and custodial methods. </li><li>Ability to comprehend and follow oral instructions. </li><li>Ability to read and follow written instructions, directions, labeling, and measurements. </li><li>Ability to exert muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects. </li><li>Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. </li><li>Ability to bend, stretch, twist, reach, and stand for long periods of time. </li><li>Ability to perform general physical activities that require considerable use of hands, arms, legs, and moving whole body, such as climbing, lifting, walking, stooping, handling, positioning, moving materials, and manipulating items. </li><li>Ability to tolerate exposure to temperature extremes. </li><li>Ability to complete tasks in a timely manner. </li></ul> <p>Specialty Factors (Civil Service)</p> <p>n/a</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications (Civil Service)</p> <ul> <li>Prior experience as a custodian, janitor, or cleaner. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Required Qualifications (SPS)</p> <p>n/a</p> <p>Additional Requirements (SPS)</p> <p>n/a</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications (SPS)</p> <p>n/a</p> <p>Physical demands/requirements</p> <ol> <li> <p>Ability to exert muscle force to lift, push, pull or carry objects.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.</p> </li></ol>
