<p>Job Description: Controls Engineer</p> <p>The Controls Engineer designs, programs, and supports automated control systems for packaging and related equipment. This role focuses on PLC and HMI programming, motion control integration, electrical design, and system commissioning, while collaborating closely with build and electrical teams to deliver reliable, safe, and efficient automation solutions from concept through start-up.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Program and troubleshoot PLCs and HMIs, with a strong focus on packaging equipment and automated machinery. </li><li>Develop, integrate, and optimize automation equipment and motion control systems to meet performance and safety requirements. </li><li>Work extensively with Allen-Bradley software platforms, including Studio 5000, RSLogix 5000, and RSLogix 500. </li><li>Configure and support motion control products such as Kinetix, Festo, and IAI components within integrated systems. </li><li>Design detailed electrical schematics and wiring drawings that support new and existing automation projects. </li><li>Create accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) to support procurement and build activities. </li><li>Design and program safety circuits that comply with applicable standards and internal safety practices. </li><li>Ensure all control system designs and electrical documentation adhere to UL specifications and relevant industry standards. </li><li>Analyze CAD drawings, written specifications, sketches, and verbal instructions to determine control system layout and sequence of operations. </li><li>Troubleshoot electrical components, wiring, and integrated control systems to resolve issues efficiently. </li><li>Debug control systems and perform final performance testing to verify functionality and reliability before release. </li><li>Support field service, start-up, and commissioning activities, including occasional travel to customer sites (approximately 5-15% travel). </li><li>Work confidently with voltage systems including 24 VDC, 120 VAC, 240 VAC, and 480 VAC while following safe work practices. </li><li>Manage multiple projects simultaneously across various build phases, maintaining clear priorities and timelines. </li><li>Collaborate closely with build and electrical teams to ensure smooth execution of projects and effective handoff between phases. </li><li>Train maintenance personnel on machine operation, control system functionality, and basic troubleshooting techniques. </li><li>Complete projects from start to finish with minimal supervision, ensuring quality, documentation accuracy, and on-time delivery. </li></ul> <p>Essential Skills</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering, or a combination of technical education and relevant hands-on experience. </li><li>At least 5 years of experience in automation, with a focus on controls engineering and industrial automation systems. </li><li>Strong PLC programming experience, including development, modification, and troubleshooting of control logic. </li><li>Demonstrated experience programming automation equipment such as packaging lines, machinery, or robotic systems. </li><li>Proficiency in HMI programming and troubleshooting for industrial applications. </li><li>Hands-on troubleshooting experience with electrical systems and control panels. </li><li>Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and prioritize tasks effectively. </li><li>Strong written and verbal communication skills in English for documentation, collaboration, and training. </li><li>Detail-oriented mindset with strong problem-solving and analytical skills. </li><li>Experience working with industrial voltage levels including 24 VDC, 120 VAC, 240 VAC, and 480 VAC. </li></ul> <p>Additional Skills & Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Experience with Allen-Bradley control platforms, including Studio 5000, RSLogix 5000, and RSLogix 500. </li><li>Familiarity with motion control products such as Kinetix, Festo, and IAI systems. </li><li>Experience in robotics and automated motion systems. </li><li>Experience designing electrical schematics, wiring drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs). </li><li>Knowledge of safety circuit design and programming for industrial machinery. </li><li>Understanding of UL specifications and their application to control system design. </li><li>Ability to interpret and work from CAD drawings, written specifications, sketches, and verbal instructions. </li><li>Experience supporting field service, start-up, and commissioning activities, including on-site troubleshooting and optimization. </li><li>Strong collaboration skills for working with build, electrical, and maintenance teams. </li></ul> <p>Job Type & Location</p> <p>This is a Permanent position based out of Palatine, IL.</p> <p>Pay and Benefits</p> <p>The pay range for this position is $100000.00 -
