<p>Job Objective: Provide access, through interpretive services, to all areas of the general education curriculum that includes but is not limited to; lecture, class labs, class discussions, presentations, small and large group instruction, study groups, and IEP meetings.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Valid Ohio Department of Education and Workforce License for Educational Interpreters </li><li>Proficient in communication skills including but not limited to: American Sign Language (ASL), Pidgin Signed English (PSE), and/or Signed Exact English (SEE). </li><li>Proficient in voicing skills </li><li>Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, and members of the IEP team </li><li>Documentation of clear criminal record </li><li>Complies with drug-free workplace rules and board policies </li></ul> <p>FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt</p> <p>Reports To: Director of Student Services and Coordinator of Special Education</p> <p>Responsibilities and Essential Functions: "The following duties are representative of performance expectations, however the list below is not ranked in order of importance or intended to be all inclusive."</p> <ul> <li>Provides accurate interpreting and/or transliterating services. </li><li>Uses communication methods that best meet the needs of assigned students' IEP. </li><li>Works with all staff to ensure that services are provided in the least restrictive environment. </li><li>Helps maintain a positive learning environment. </li><li>Promotes effective use of interpretive services in an inclusive environment. </li><li>Collaborates with educational team to address supplemental service needs. </li><li>Helps educate staff about using interpretive services and providing visual access to deaf and hard of hearing students. </li><li>Uses designated planning opportunities to increase knowledge of classroom to effectively interpret material. </li><li>Provides interpretive services when students ask or the students' behavior in the educational setting suggests they need the content explained further. </li><li>Assists in the implementation of classroom modifications/accommodations as requested by teacher of record. </li><li>Promotes self-advocacy skills for students to take full advantage of each learning environment. </li><li>Participates in staff meetings and professional growth opportunities; pursues opportunities to acquire new skills such as C-Print captioning. </li><li>Upholds board policies, follows administrative guidelines, complies with Federal and state laws, model policies and procedures, rules and regulations for the education of students with disabilities.
