<p>Description</p> <p>The Department of Community Corrections (DOCCR) is seeking a Senior Accountant to facilitate and lead the financial responsibilities of the Adult Correctional Facility (ACF). This position will be responsible for the financial activities related to accounting for revenues/receivables, purchasing card transactions, subscription-based information technology arrangements (SBITAs) using PeopleSoft applications, and other specialized software. This position will have additional wide-ranging duties as a key member of a team responsible for the county's accounting and financial reporting, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, grant accounting, and other functions.</p> <p>Current Hennepin County employees who refer a candidate hired into an open competitive position may be eligible for a $500 referral bonus. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, with flexible hours between 7 a.m. - 5 p.m. Note that a hybrid option may be considered after the probation certification period.</p> <p>New Employee Orientation (NEO) for all new benefit-earning employees is in-person in downtown Minneapolis. Details about NEO will be provided upon hire.</p> <p>About the position type:</p> <p>This is a full-time, benefit earning position.</p> <p>This position is internally classified as an Accountant, Senior.</p> <p>Click here to view the job classification specification.</p> <p>In this position, you will:</p> <ul> <li>Develop the annual budget and forecasts based on program needs, cost structures, and staffing while working in collaboration with management. </li><li>Review and approve requisitions, journal entries, direct pay requests, purchase cards and that they meet county policies and procedures along with accurate account coding. </li><li>Prepare and perform monthly reconciliations of general ledger accounts and transactions, journal entries, and year-end activities in accordance with standardized governmental methods and procedures. </li><li>Prepare ad hoc financial analysis and/or audits as necessary. </li><li>Oversee account receivables and payables to ensure invoicing, account coding, and documentation are accurate. </li><li>Management of treasury activities as it relates to resident accounts, cash flow, and bank reconciliations. </li><li>Supervise a small team. </li></ul> <p>Need to have:</p> <ul> <li>One of the following: </li><li>Six years or more of professional experience in a specific functional area of accounting, auditing, or financial management. </li><li>Bachelor's degree or higher in accounting, business administration with an emphasis in accounting, or other specialty area related to the position and two years or more of professional experience in a specific functional area of accounting, auditing, or financial management. </li></ul> <p>Nice to have:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Two or more years of experience working in governmental accounting.</p> </li><li> <p>Experience:</p> </li><li> <p>With financial reporting, year-end accounting processes, accounts receivables, and working closely with external auditors.</p> </li><li> <p>With technical accounting that includes experience related to the accounts payable, accounts receivable, and grant accounting areas.</p> </li><li> <p>Performing accounting duties such as accounts payable using a PO system, accounting related to payroll and journal entry adjustments to pay and benefits, annual audit requests, and capital projects accounting.</p> </li><li> <p>Working with Microsoft Office applications, PeopleSoft Financials, or other electronic accounting systems.</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to:</p> </li><li> <p>Handle multiple priorities with minimal direction.</p> </li><li> <p>Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.</p> </li><li> <p>Meet deadlines and produce accurate work in a fast-paced office environment.</p> </li><li> <p>Have strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to demonstrate critical thinking.</p> </li><li> <p>Establish and maintain effective working relationships within and outside the organization.</p> </li></ul> <p>About the department:</p> <p>The Department of Community Corrections and Rehabilitation works to enhance community safety, promote community restoration, and reduce the risk of re-offense.
