Interested applicants must apply online by visiting the Denver Public Schools job board at careers.dpsk12.org.</p> <p>About this job:</p> <p>The Deaf/Hard of Hearing (D/HH) Itinerant Special Education Paraprofessional provides services to students whose hearing loss significantly impacts their access to instruction.</p> <p>Deaf/Hard of Hearing (D/HH) center programs provide intensive, language-based services to students whose hearing loss significantly impacts their access to instruction and language development in grades ECE-12. Students in the program are placed by their IEP team and require the support of Teachers of the Deaf (ToD), D/HH paraprofessionals, Educational Audiologists and Educational Sign Language Interpreters (as needed) to progress in their academics and communication skills utilizing the Colorado Academic Standards and DPS Expanded Core Curriculum. DPS subscribes to a comprehensive communication philosophy: the belief that all children, no matter their communication modality, deserve equitable access to communication and English language proficiency. Educators use their expertise in language development to meet each child's individual communication needs, incorporating listening and spoken language, signed languages, Cued Speech, and combination of these.</p> <p>What DPS Offers You:</p> <ul> <li>A Culture that values Equity, Accountability, Integrity, Collaboration and Fun with a shared vision that Every Learner Thrives. </li><li>Click here for more information on compensation for these roles. </li><li>In addition to competitive compensation, DPS has other Total Reward offerings such as; time off, health and wellness benefits, and PERA Retirement. </li></ul> <p>What You'll Do:</p> <ul> <li>Instruct students in academic subjects using a variety of techniques to meet students' varying needs. </li><li>May provide medically invasive (e.g. tube feeding, catheterization, suctioning) and daily living (e.g. toileting, diapering, feeding, personal hygiene) activities following universal precautions and as trained and directed </li><li>Facilitates and supports transitions, accommodations and modifications specified on Individualized Education Programs (IEP) and teacher lesson plans </li><li>Prepares and sets-up educational materials </li><li>Lifts and transports students using appropriate equipment and technique, according to District training </li><li>Communicates and coordinates with students and parents (oral and written) about routine educational issues </li><li>Discusses and coordinates instructional efforts with teachers and other educational staff </li><li>Assists with implementation of structured programs and schedules for the classroom </li><li>Works in a variety of school, community and home settings </li><li>May participate in extra-duty activities as outlined in the teachers' collective bargaining agreement (This is for coaching, tutoring, or summer programs, etc. for Dept. of Labor laws). </li></ul> <p>What You'll Need:</p> <ul> <li>Hold a High School Diploma/GED - Required; </li><li>Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is preferred </li><li>Must pass District approved written and physical exams covering de-escalation and physical restraint training, on an annual basis; Specialized training in invasive procedures, such as, tube feeding and catheterization, will be provided, as assignment requires; Required training must be completed within 75 days of initial hire </li><li>If using personal or company vehicle to conduct work duties, must have a valid Colorado driver's license or be able to obtain a Colorado driver's license within the state's required time frame for new residents and meet the District's insurability requirements </li><li>Experience working with young students with exceptional needs and their parents preferred. </li><li>Experience working with a diverse student population. </li><li>Lead for racial and educational excellence and work to dismantle systems of oppression and inequity in our community, along with believing in and supporting all students so they feel seen and heard with access to high quality education. </li><li>Live and work with a permanent home address in Colorado while working with us. </li><li>Have the ability with or without accommodations to meet the physical demands of the position. </li></ul> <p>Denver Public Schools is an Equal Opportunity Employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, gender expression, and sexual orientation), parental status, national origin, age, disability, genetic information (including family medical history), political affiliation, military service, or any other status protected by law or regulations.
