<p>The Police Crisis Counselor position shall serve as a counselor with the Family Intervention Program/Division (FIP) and shall be directly accountable to the FIP Counseling Supervisor for the proper administration of duties. This position performs the professional duties involved in providing counseling to victims of crime, their children and non-perpetrating family members during and following crisis situations and advises police officers on the best way to handle victims of crime and other emotionally stressed individuals. The counselor also advises police officers on the best way to handle crime victims and other emotionally stressed individuals.</p> <p>The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) is a 24/7/365 operation. Whether you are a sworn or civilian employee, you will be responsible for the general welfare of the citizens of Nashville and Davidson County. You will be responsible for ensuring optimum communications both within Metro and between Metro and the general public. If this environment is appealing and exciting to you, then you might want to consider a job with Metro Nashville Police Department.</p> <ul> <li>All positions in the Metro Nashville Police Department require an extensive background check. </li><li>Counsels victims and/or their families/children. </li><li>Provides 24/7 on-call in the team rotation to victims of crime in various settings. </li><li>Refers individuals or families with out-of-scope problems to appropriate agencies. </li><li>Develops treatment plans with behavioral and situational treatment objectives. </li><li>Conducts follow-up counseling on a weekly or biweekly basis as indicated by treatment. </li><li>Develops and facilitates individual therapy or support groups for youth and their family members. </li><li>Refers individuals or families with problems beyond our scope of services to appropriate agencies. </li><li>Develops treatment plans with behavioral and situational objectives. </li><li>Conducts follow-up counseling on a weekly or biweekly basis as indicated by the victim's needs. </li><li>Instructs Police Trainees and Officers as to the techniques involved in crisis counseling, victimization, and handling of emotionally distressed individuals. </li><li>Performs administrative duties. </li><li>Serves as an advocate for victims through police and court proceedings. </li><li>Speaks to professionals and other community groups. </li><li>Acts as a liaison between the police department and local mental health agencies and hospitals. </li><li>Maintains confidential records and writes detailed reports. </li><li>Keeps abreast of current techniques and procedures used in handling crisis situations. </li><li>Conducts counseling, support, and psychoeducational groups. </li></ul> <p>EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE</p> <p>Master's Degree in a field of Behavioral Science, such as Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a related field from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of clinical counseling experience in a mental health related setting.</p> <p> </p> <ul> <li>No Substitution* </li></ul> <p> </p> <p>LICENSES REQUIRED</p> <p> Valid Driver License </p> <p> </p> <p>Employees in this classification must maintain certification or licensing in a counseling related field at a minimum of the Master's level from the State of Tennessee. Failure to maintain the required licensing or certification may result in termination.</p> <p>Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.</p> <p> </p> <p>Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government. </p> <ul> <li>Ability to speak, read and write in Spanish </li><li>Experience counseling Spanish speaking clients </li><li>Experience with evidence-based treatment approaches for trauma victims and trauma-Informed counseling interventions </li><li>Experience with court and various aspects of the Criminal Justice System </li></ul> <p>We are an equal opportunity employer that values diversity at all levels.
