<p>Introduction</p> <p>The Maryland School for the Deaf (MSD) is a diverse,\nbilingual community who in partnership with families, provides an equitable and\nexemplary education in a nurturing, engaging, and challenging environment to\nensure our students achieve personal excellence and become lifelong learners.\n\n\nThis is a 12-month position in the maintenance\ndepartment of the Maryland School for the Deaf - Frederick Campus. This\nposition is designated as Essential Personnel.\n</p> <p>GRADE</p> <p>ASTD9\n</p> <p>LOCATION OF POSITION</p> <p>MSD,\nFrederick, Campus, 101 Clarke Place, Frederick, MD 21705\n</p> <p>Main Purpose of Job</p> <p>Perform general maintenance tasks, such as simple construction, preventative maintenance, improvements and minor repairs to buildings, fixtures, mechanical equipment, grounds and roadways.\n</p> <p>POSITION DUTIES</p> <p>Performs regularly scheduled maintenance services and\nminor repairs to building equipment items, including but not limited to air\nconditioning systems, boilers, hydraulic systems, circulator pumps,\nair?handler units, electric pump motors, refrigeration equipment items,\nexhaust fans, cooling towers, and?ice chillers.\n\n\nCleans and lubricates pump and motor bearings, adjust\nmotor belt tension and replaces equipment?filters.\n\n\nCleans mechanical and equipment room spaces by sweeping\nand mopping floors and wipe down?equipment to maintain equipment and\nspaces free from dirt and debris.\n\n\nMake daily inspections of the physical plant, facility and\nutility operations to ensure the?reliability/safety of all plant equipment\noptimizing the overall environment for staff, visitors and?students.\n\n\nPerforms plumbing repairs and adjustments to heating\nsystems components, lavatory fixtures, hand sinks, and water\nfountains.??Unclog toilets, sinks, water fountains and floor and roof\ndrains to ensure?proper operation. Repair or replace lavatory enclosure\ncomponents, panels and hardware items.? Check?pipes for leaks.\n\n\nPerform carpentry repairs including but not limited to\nrepair furniture, move, change or construct interior walls, frame, drywall hang\ndoors replace windows and window panes, install cabinets. Apply finish and/or\npaint to competed projects.\n\n\nPerform masonry functions to interior or exterior functions\nwhich may include repairs to cracks and?imperfections in sheet rock, block\nwalls, concrete slabs, concrete walkways and asphalt paving.\n\n\nPerform minor electrical repair functions which may\ninclude replacing covers, light bulbs, light fixtures,?and assist with\ntroubleshooting electrical wiring problems. Assist with the installation of new\nelectrical?conduit, wiring and switches.\n\n\nPerform ground maintenance functions which may include,\nmowing, trimming, pruning, planting, mulching, weeding and watering. Clean\nwalkways, building surfaces, window wells, gutters. Snow and ice removal.\nMaintain and service equipment.\n\n\nPerform other duties that may be required and/or\nas directed.\n</p> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>\nEducation: Eighth grade.\n\n\nExperience: Three years of experience in any combination of the maintenance trades provided that at least two years of?experience are?primarily in the trades of electricity, plumbing, steamfittings, refrigeration or air-conditioning.\n\n\nNotes:\n1. Candidates?may substitute additional experience in any of the maintenance trades on a year-for-year basis for up to three years of the required education.\n\n\n2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a degree from an accredited vocational or technical high school with a major in Building Maintenance or a related field?for the required experience.\n\n\n3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in utilities repair classifications or construction and engineering specialty codes in any combination of maintenance trades, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.\n\n\n</p> <p>DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>Prior experience in facilities maintenance and/or trade\nexperience.\n\n\nWilling to learn American Sign Language.\n\n\nAble to lift 50 lbs. or more.\n\n\nAble to assist with snow removal on the campus.\n</p> <p>LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS</p> <p>Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.\n</p> <p>SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS</p> <p>New hires are subject to a criminal background\ninvestigation at their own expense.
