<p>Delaware Libraries Literacy Coordinator</p> <p>Join a dynamic team of VISTAs working to improve literacy across Delaware! Delaware faces a significant literacy challenge: over 20% of residents have low literacy skills, and only 35% of third graders read at grade level. Libraries are uniquely positioned to be hubs of literacy support, and this VISTA role is central to that mission. You will: • Develop and expand Learning Circles and Family Literacy Programs in public libraries. • Support Adult Basic Education (ABE) and English as a Second Language (ESL) learners in informal, family-friendly settings. • Recruit and train volunteers to sustain literacy programming. • Create engaging activities and discussions around books and reading. • Design and implement simple, effective data collection tools. • Collaborate with library staff to tailor programs to each community's needs. • Document your experience and share insights to support future VISTAs. This is the second year of a pilot initiative, and you'll build on the foundation laid by the previous VISTA while bringing your own creativity and passion to the role.
