<p>About the Job</p> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <p>30% - Operates and maintains all aspects of the Immunohistochemistry laboratory, including equipment maintenances. Optimize and validates new IHC test procedures with the support of pathologists and under general supervision of senior laboratory professionals.</p> <p>20% - Operates and maintains all aspects of the Histology Laboratory: performs multi-step</p> <p>complex histologic procedures as a diagnostic research tool for the detection of viral, bacterial and abnormal growth disease under the general supervision of senior professionals;</p> <p>process/embeds all submitted pathologic tissue; micro sections, stains, and coverslips tissue;</p> <p>prepares various solutions and reagents necessary to perform histologic tests; performs both</p> <p>automated and manual staining procedures (routine and special stains); selects and assesses all control slides through microscopic examination for accuracy and acceptability of stain results; troubleshoots nonconforming results; follows established protocols and</p> <p>guidelines; performance and accuracy are observed/reviewed by senior laboratory professionals.</p> <p>10% - Actively participates in research projects from within and outside of the CVM as directed by senior laboratory professionals; participates in national histologic study sets by preparing case study material and national proficiency testing through the National Veterinary Service Laboratory.</p> <p>10% - Maintains all complex laboratory equipment according to the manufacturers'</p> <p>recommendations; assists in troubleshooting equipment malfunctions; calibrates equipment in compliance with quality control protocols; documents actions and results in an online quality control software program.</p> <p>10% - Maintains daily logbook of workload; maintains and archives daily checklists of special</p> <p>stain procedures.</p> <p>10% - Performs procedures in compliance with GLP and AAVLD Quality Control Essential</p> <p>Requirements. Participates in the detection and review of nonconforming work, determination of corrective/preventive actions and contributes as a team member in optimizing opportunities for continuous improvement.</p> <p>10% - Performs general laboratory maintenance tasks including conducting inventory, handling and disposing of hazardous waste material as prescribed by UHS, performing general laboratory cleaning duties and undertaking all quality control policies/procedures. Along with other duties as needed or seen fit by the supervisor.</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>All required qualifications must be documented on application materials</p> <p>Required Qualifications:</p> <p>BA/BS degree of a combination of related education and work experience to equal at least four years. May require professional health care certification, registration, or state licensure.</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications:</p> <p>Experience working in veterinary laboratory/clinic or working with animal research samples;</p> <p>basic knowledge of anatomy.
