<p>Position Information</p> <p>Position Number 004606 Position Title Assistant Director, Aquatics & Outdoor Adventures - 004606 Division Student Affairs Department 210400 - Campus Recreation Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama, five years of directly related experience, current certification as a Water Safety Instructor (WSI), Lifeguard and Lifeguard Instructor (LGI), and possession of a valid driver's license and maintenance of a driving record sufficient to maintain insurance coverage with the University of South Alabama. Ability to obtain Community Pool Operator (CPO), Water Safety Instructor Trainer and Lifeguard Instructor Trainer certifications within one year of employment. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <p>Certification as an Aquatics Fitness Instructor preferred. Master's degree preferred.</p> <p>Job Description Summary</p> <p>The University of South Alabama's department of Campus Recreation and Wellness is seeking to hire an Assistant Director, Aquatics and Outdoor Adventures. Interested candidates should apply to be considered.</p> <p>Essential Functions</p> <p>These are the job duties required of the position.</p> <p>Essential Functions</p> <ul> <li> <p>Oversees the operation of all aquatic facilities within the Department of Campus Recreation.</p> </li><li> <p>Instructs lifeguard and WSI courses.</p> </li><li> <p>Teaches swim lessons to include group and private lessons.</p> </li><li> <p>Communications with contracted pool company to ensure proper maintenance of swimming pools, saunas and spas.</p> </li><li> <p>Designs and develops aquatics programs.</p> </li><li> <p>Organizes all pool related functions such as water aerobics, movie nights at the pool, special events, and birthday parties which may require working early mornings, late evenings, and/or weekends.</p> </li><li> <p>Interviews, hires, and trains student assistants (lifeguards and swim instructors) to work in the aquatic facilities.</p> </li><li> <p>Supervises student assistants to include assigning duties and checking work.</p> </li><li> <p>Develops, implements, and oversees safety policies of aquatic facilities.</p> </li><li> <p>Follows appropriate safety procedures in the handling of pool supplies.</p> </li><li> <p>Assists the Director of Campus Recreation and Wellness in the development of the operating budget, student personnel budget, and capital outlays.</p> </li><li> <p>Collaborates with the Director and Associate Directors to develop goals and student learning outcomes, as well as the develo0ppment and training of all staff on emergency action plans and safety training for the Student Recreation Center.</p> </li><li> <p>Assists the Director of Campus Recreation and Wellness and the Associate Director of Campus Recreation, Fitness, Camps, and Outdoor Adventures in the following:</p> </li><li> <p>Developing and maintaining the Outdoor Adventure program operating budgets, student personnel budgets, and capital outlays to ensure programs align with fiscal allocation.</p> </li><li> <p>Developing and implementing policies, procedures, and emergency action plans to ensure a safe and inclusive outdoor adventure program.</p> </li><li> <p>Collaborating with University departments to develop, promote, and encourage the use of varied resources to provide new and improved outdoor adventure trips that are fiscally responsible.</p> </li><li> <p>Organizing, planning, and implementing outdoor adventure trips as well as teambuilding adventures/programs, and outdoor adventure challenges for the Outdoor Adventure Program.</p> </li><li> <p>Collaborating and assisting the Assistant Director of Competitive Sports, Facilities, and Climbing Wall to develop current and new aquatic sports clubs.</p> </li><li> <p>Regular and prompt attendance.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to work schedule as defined and additional hours as required</p> </li><li> <p>Related duties as required.</p> </li></ul> <p>Posting Information</p> <p>Number of Vacancies 1 Position End Date (if temporary) Job Open Date 04/25/2025 Job Close Date Open Until Filled Yes Special Instructions to Applicants Working Days Varies Working Hours Varies Job Location Main Campus Full-time or Part-Time Full Time Regular or Temporary Regular</p>
