<p>Assistant Commander, Ohio Peace Officer Basic Academy</p> <p>$28 per hour</p> <ol> <li>Position Purpose </li></ol> <p>Under the direct supervision of the Ohio Peace Officer Basic Academy Commander, the</p> <p>Assistant Commander of the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy at Hocking College will</p> <p>assist the Academy Commander in the day-to-day operations of the Hocking College Police</p> <p>Academy, the Ohio Peace Officers Training Commission Closer to Home Program, and the</p> <p>Hocking College firing range. Together, the Commander and Assistant Commander are</p> <p>responsible for the promotion of the academy, Closer to Home program, and other programs</p> <p>conducted under the direction of the commander. These may include social media, Hocking</p> <p>College promotional events, and trade shows.</p> <ol start="2"> <li>Duties and Responsibilities </li></ol> <p>1.) Assures that all rules set forth in the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission Commanders</p> <p>Manual are followed, all necessary forms are completed, student performance required by</p> <p>Hocking College is documented, and the student learning systems utilized by the college is</p> <p>maintained.</p> <p>2.) Is responsible for the administration of the Regional Ohio Peace Officer Closer to Home</p> <p>Program through the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission.</p> <p>3.) Is responsible for the operation of the Hocking College Gun Firing Range, scheduling the</p> <p>use by the college and outside approved events, maintenance reporting, and recommend the</p> <p>authorization of access of personnel to the range.</p> <p>4.) Assists with the budget and purchasing of all supplies, and equipment for the operation of</p> <p>the police academy, the Hocking College firing range, and Closer to Home programs.</p> <p>5.) Serves as the direct supervisor of all Hocking College Employees that teach in the Ohio</p> <p>Peace Officer Training Academy at Hocking College and the Closer to Home program. This</p> <p>includes but not limited to approving payroll, ensuring all instructors are accredited to teach</p> <p>assigned topics, and are aware of the academy calendar. The Assistant Commander may</p> <p>assist in this process upon the request of the Commander.</p> <ol start="3"> <li>Qualifications - Education, Experience, and Skills </li></ol> <p>Position Requirements</p> <p>High School Diploma or GED equivalent required, Associate's Degree in Criminal</p> <p>Justice or related field is preferred.</p> <p>Police Academy Teaching Certificate, Commanders Certificate required, additional</p> <p>OPOTA certifications preferred.</p> <p>Minimum of 7 years of experience as a full-time law enforcement officer, including 2</p> <p>years as a full-time law enforcement supervisor.</p> <p>Must possess a valid driver's license.</p> <p>Pass a BCI/FBI background check.</p> <p>No convictions for a felony offense, a crime of moral turpitude, or any other peace</p> <p>officer disqualifying offense.</p> <p>Must complete a School Commander Orientation conducted by an OPOTC Field Agent.</p> <p>Must attend a School Commander's Conference.</p> <p>Knowledge of regulatory requirements and standards for law enforcement education</p> <p>and training.</p> <p>Demonstrate human relations and counseling skills and have good organizational and</p> <p>communication skills.</p> <p>Good public speaking skills.</p> <p>The Assistant Commander is responsible for all required training or meetings to</p> <p>maintain his/her certifications required by the college or the Ohio Peace Officers</p> <p>Training Commission for this position.</p> <p>Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).</p> <p>Strong technology skills including usage of email, student information system, and</p> <p>learning management system</p> <p>Organizational, record-keeping, and interpersonal skills.</p> <p>Knowledge of subject area.</p> <p>Knowledge of educational theory and application.</p> <p>Knowledge of learners and individual learning styles.</p> <p>Interest in and commitment to the learner-centered educational process.</p> <p>Educational technology skills.</p> <p>Confidentiality.</p> <p>Caring attitude toward students.</p> <p>Learning and self-motivation skills.</p> <p>Willingness to extend self to help students succeed.</p> <p>Knowledge of College resources available to students.</p> <p>Knowledge of organizational structure.</p> <p>Current knowledge of programs, objectives, and requirements.</p> <p>Openness to suggestions for improvement.</p> <p>Attention to detail.</p> <p>Flexibility in dealing with others.</p> <p>Ability to work as a team member.</p> <p>Ability to prioritize work.</p> <p>Behaves in accordance with Hocking College and Academic Affairs mission, goals, and</p> <p>values.</p> <p>Positive attitude.</p> <p>Knowledge of safe working conditions</p> <p>Reasonable accommodations may be requested and reviewed according to the Americans with</p> <p>Disabilities Act (ADA).</p>
