<p>Onslow County EMS is seeking a dynamic, innovative, and service-driven EMS Training Officer to lead professional development and continuing education efforts for our EMS Division. This is more than a training position-it's an opportunity to shape the skills, knowledge, and culture of one of North Carolina's most forward-thinking EMS systems.</p> <p>The EMS Training Officer will oversee curriculum design, instructional delivery, program evaluation, and continuing education standards. You will directly and indirectly manage our Field Training Officers (FTOs) and new hires within the Field Training and Evaluation Program (FTEP), ensuring our personnel are prepared to deliver exceptional service to the community.</p> <p>This position reports to the EMS Division Head and operates with a high degree of autonomy, with success measured by program outcomes, operational readiness, and employee growth.</p> <p>Our core values-Resilience, Excellence, Accountability, Customer Service, and Honesty-are the foundation of our work and the standard by which we operate. Your commitment to these principles is essential to fostering a positive workplace culture and ensuring the success of our organization and the community we serve. </p> <p> </p> <ul> <li>Assesses educational needs of the EMS Division and ensures training programs align with current medical practices and credentialing standards. </li><li>Collaborates with the EMS Clinical Captain to integrate education with quality assurance and clinical performance goals. </li><li>Researches, develops, and maintains curricula, lesson plans, e-learning modules, and instructional resources. </li><li>Delivers high-quality educational programs or coordinates subject-matter experts for specialized instruction. </li><li>Collects and evaluates participant feedback to support continuous program improvement. </li><li>Oversees the learning management system and training-related software applications. </li><li>Manages the Field Training and Evaluation Program (FTEP), including supervision of Field Training Officers, employee evaluations, policy development, and coaching. </li><li>Leads professional development initiatives, continuing education programs, and ongoing employee assessments. </li><li>Ensures compliance with all statutes, standards of practice, and regulatory requirements for EMS education. </li><li>Represents Onslow County EMS in communications with internal staff, partner agencies, stakeholders, and program participants. </li><li>Performs all functions of a Paramedic, when required. </li><li>Performs assigned functions as a Disaster Ready Team (DRT) member </li><li>Performs related tasks as required. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge of:</p> <ul> <li>Principles, practices, and standards of prehospital emergency medical care. </li><li>Adult learning theory, instructional design, and curriculum development. </li><li>EMS regulatory requirements, credentialing standards, and compliance guidelines. </li><li>Learning management systems (LMS), e-learning platforms, and training technologies. </li><li>Performance evaluation methods and field training program administration. </li></ul> <p>Skill in:</p> <ul> <li>Developing and delivering engaging educational programs for diverse adult learners. </li><li>Supervising, coaching, and mentoring Field Training Officers and new employees. </li><li>Evaluating training outcomes and applying quality improvement processes. </li><li>Communicating effectively in both written and oral formats with staff, stakeholders, and external partners. </li><li>Managing multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines with accuracy and attention to detail. </li></ul> <p>Ability to:</p> <ul> <li>Lead and inspire professional growth among EMS personnel. </li><li>Adapt teaching methods to meet varying learning styles and skill levels. </li><li>Maintain effective working relationships with employees, partner agencies, and the community. </li><li>Exercise sound judgment in evaluating employee performance and addressing performance issues. </li><li>Uphold Onslow County's REACH values in all professional duties and interactions. </li></ul> <p>To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in Emergency Medical Services, Education, Public Safety Administration, or a related field (Master's degree preferred). </li><li>Minimum of 5 years of progressive EMS experience, including at least 2 years in an instructional, training, or supervisory role. </li><li>Minimum of 3 years of EMS Supervisor/EMS instructor experience </li><li>Current North Carolina Paramedic certification (or ability to obtain prior to hire). </li><li>EMS Instructor Level I or higher credential recognized by the North Carolina Office of EMS (Level II preferred). </li></ul> <p>Special Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Must possess and maintain a valid North Carolina driver's license (or ability to obtain prior to hire). </li><li>Must obtain NC Office of EMS Level II Paramedic Instructor within 12 months of hire. </li><li>Currently credential to perform Drug Assisted Intubation (DAI) in the Onslow County-Camp Lejeune EMS System or the ability to gain credential within 6 months of hire. </li><li>Must obtain ICS 300 and ICS 400 within 12 months of hire. </li><li>American Heart Association Instructor credentials in BLS, ACLS, and PALS (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire). </li></ul> <p> Compensation will be determined based on qualifications, internal equity, budget, and market considerations.</p>
