<p>Position Type:</p> <p>Parks and Recreation Line Employees/Seasonal Employees</p> <p>Date Posted:</p> <p>2/10/2026</p> <p>Location:</p> <p>Parks and Recreation Offices</p> <p>&nbsp&nbspAdditional Information: Show/Hide</p> <p>Vernon Parks and Recreation</p> <p>Title: Summer Camp Program Specialist- Art</p> <p>Hourly Rate: $19.9403-$20.4792/hr</p> <p>Job Summary</p> <p>Under the general supervision of the Camp Director, performs responsible work in the planning, implementation, supervision, and evaluation of a variety of challenging, engaging, safe, and age-appropriate activities within the specific program area.</p> <p>General Duties</p> <ul> <li>Develops a daily lesson plan and implements activities in the specialty program area </li><li>Plans differing age-appropriate activities for campers across a variety of ages and abilities </li><li>Has daily contact with program participants and supervises campers as needed </li><li>Inventories supplies and prepares orders for program supplies within the specialty area </li><li>Maintains accountability of and is responsible for the health and safety of all program participants </li><li>Responsible for enforcing the rules and regulations of the Town of Vernon and Vernon Parks & Recreation Department </li><li>Responsible for completing required program documentation in a timely manner </li><li>Attends staff meetings and program special events as needed </li><li>Conducts daily safety checks of the facility, equipment, and supplies for the program specialty area </li><li>Considered a first responder for medical emergency action procedures </li><li>Maintain a positive work attitude </li><li>Performs related work as required </li></ul> <p>MINIMUM Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>18 years of age or older </li><li>Knowledge of principles and practices of recreational programming as it relates to a summer day camp </li><li>Ability to work with children ages 5-13 and possess an understanding of their social, emotional, and physical development and needs </li><li>Knowledge of and ability to instruct participants in a variety of arts & crafts activities using a variety of mediums </li><li>A minimum of 8 weeks previous experience in an organized day camp setting, or actively pursuing a college degree in Recreation, Physical Education, Education, Art, or a related field </li><li>Possess current First Aid/CPR/AED Certification or able to obtain one prior to start date </li><li>Reliable access to transportation </li><li>Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, with participants and other Town employees </li><li>Ability to organize data and maintain records </li></ul> <p>Physical and mental effort and Work Conditions</p> <ul> <li>Able to lift objects in excess of 20 pounds </li><li>Able to concentrate for extended periods of time with interruptions </li><li>Able to walk, run, swim, sit or stand for prolonged periods </li><li>Able to perform moderately difficult skills such as writing and typing </li><li>Able to perform tasks which require hand-eye coordination such as instruction of a skill </li><li>Able to see objects closely and far away, such as waterfront supervision </li><li>Able to hear normal sounds with some background noise such as a call for help </li><li>Able to attend to task for an extended period of time </li><li>Able to remember multiple tasks/assignments given to self or others </li><li>Able to communicate effectively with program participants, parents, and other Town employees </li><li>Potential exposure to blood, body tissues or fluids, seasonal conditions in outside weather, and to loud or unpleasant noises </li></ul>
