<p>Repairs and maintains City vehicles and equipment by performing the following duties.include the following. The list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary. Other duties may be assigned. Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position.</p> <p>Repairs and maintains vehicles and equipment (with a primary emphasis on automotive vehicles, such as; cars & small to mediums size trucks): repairs and maintains gasoline and diesel engines, hydraulic systems, brakes, clutches, automatic and manual transmissions, drive line, front end suspension, electrical and cooling systems, air conditioning and heating systems, and other related mechanical parts or systems; mentors Service Bay Technicians. </p> <p>Performs diagnostic/trouble-shooting: diagnose vehicle/equipment components with analog and digital computer controls using computerized tools, scanners, web based tools, amp/volt meters and various other tools and resources. </p> <p>Maintains equipment and work area: maintains machinery and equipment used in the repair of vehicles and equipment; cleans and maintains area of shop where repairs are made. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.</p> <p>Certification as a mechanic from an accredited trade school OR one active ASE certification from The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence</p> <p>AND</p> <p>One year experience as a certified mechanic OR 4 years' experience as a mechanic OR Military Occupational Specialty (Level 10 or above) conducive to vehicles and equipment within our fleet.</p> <p>Experience with Ford, General Motors, Dodge, International, Caterpillar, Kubota, Komatsu and New Holland manufactured vehicles and equipment is preferred.</p> <p>A Class B commercial driver's license and good driving record are required and must be maintained throughout employment. Newly hired applicants who do not possess the required license may be hired conditioned on their obtaining the required license within 6 months of hire, or as directed by the Department Head.The complexity, guidelines, supervisory controls, and supervision responsibilities described below are representative of this position.</p> <p>SUPERVISORY CONTROLS:</p> <p>The supervisor provides continuing or individual assignments by indicating generally what is to be done, limitations, quality and quantity expected, deadlines, and priority of assignments. The supervisor provides additional, specific instructions for new, difficult, or unusual assignments including suggested work methods or advice on source material available. The employee uses initiative in carrying out recurring assignments independently without specific instruction, but refers deviations, problems, and unfamiliar situations not covered by instructions to the supervisor for decision or help. The supervisor reviews some of the work, with more review of difficult or unfamiliar assignments.</p> <p>SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:</p> <p>None.</p> <p>COMPLEXITY:</p> <p>The work includes various duties involving different and unrelated processes and methods; the decision regarding what needs to be done depends upon the analysis of the subject, phase, or issues involved in each assignment, and the chosen course of action may have to be selected from many alternatives; the work involves conditions and elements that must be identified and analyzed to discern interrelationships.</p> <p>GUIDELINES:</p> <p>Guidelines are broad. Employee makes many decisions concerning planning of work and refining the techniques to be used.</p>
