This position applies extensive knowledge of adult learning theories and learning styles to help maximize learner success and ensure overall effectiveness of the course instruction. Utilizes all avenues of adult instruction to present and teach course material relevant to emergency management or professional development. In addition, this position facilitates the updating and revising of courses in the curriculum development process and review new instructional materials, as requested. The Instructor, IMT may be utilized to assist in training in all areas of the State, along with the possibility of participating on the Texas Incident Management Team.</p> <p>This position reports to the Unit Chief, IMT Training.</p> <ul> <li>Classification and hourly rate will be determined based on level of education, experience, and skillset. </li></ul> <p>Note: This is a Temporary/Casual position established to accommodate a temporary organizational need. As such, TDEM does not guarantee any set number of hours in this role. Temporary/Casual positions are ineligible for employee benefits and have a finite term that is subject for renewal each fixed term based upon business needs. The Division Chief, Training will determine the Instructor Level based on business needs and funding.</p> <ul> <li>This position is located on-site and not subject to telecommuting. </li></ul> <p>ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Develops, designs, instructs, and evaluates various courses within a specified program related to emergency management professionals.</p> </li><li> <p>Instructs courses and provides technical assistance for the TDEM Training Division.</p> </li><li> <p>Prepares training material and ensures that the classroom is prepared for class delivery to include setting up and tearing down equipment, course props and other materials.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintains subject matter expertise on emergency management related topics of instruction.</p> </li><li> <p>Administers, maintains, and ensures completion and collection of student attendance roster, registration forms, pre-test/post-test, course evaluation, and delivery records forms.</p> </li><li> <p>Develops, coordinates and implements incident management activities, as assigned, during man-made or natural disasters.</p> </li><li> <p>Provides incident management support to the Texas Incident Management Team through TDEM.</p> </li><li> <p>Prepares and teaches assigned course(s) and stays abreast of changes to NIMS ICS all hazard courses.</p> </li><li> <p>Supports the design, development, and delivery of training, exercises, learning activities, and/or simulation environments.</p> </li><li> <p>Provides administrative support to leadership in the development and maintenance of TDEM and academy courses, policies, and procedures.</p> </li><li> <p>Coordinates course assignments in support of upcoming course deliveries. Completes timely reports and other related documentation following course completion.</p> </li><li> <p>Facilitates and monitor activities of assigned instructors during course delivery to ensure course objectives are met.</p> </li><li> <p>Conducts specific and/or ongoing evaluation actions for assigned training activities and related learning events, using evaluation instruments, observations, examinations, and questionnaires, and is responsible for assessing the subsequent impact upon participant needs.</p> </li><li> <p>Complies with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TDEM policies and procedures.</p> </li><li> <p>All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and Agency safety requirements.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintains a professional appearance and follows all dress codes associated with work activity. May be required to deploy during a state disaster.</p> </li><li> <p>May be required to instruct in all parts of the state.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to travel (80%).</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to drive.</p> </li><li> <p>Face-to-face and person-to-person interactions are required.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain a regular course of attendance during authorized work schedule.</p> </li></ul> <p>This document represents the major duties, responsibilities, and authorities of this job, and is not intended to be a complete list of all tasks and functions.</p> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <p>Instructor, IMT Level II:</p> <p>Education Requirements</p> <ul> <li> <p>Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited four-year college or university or equivalent combination of education and experience.</p> </li><li> <p>G-141: Instructional Presentation and Evaluation Skills, G-265: Basic Instructional Skills, EMI Master Trainer, Fire Instructor II, or equivalent.</p> </li><li> <p>Completion of FEMA courses: ICS 100, ICS 400, IS 700 and IS 800.</p> </li></ul> <p>Experience Requirements</p> <ul> <li>Minimum of three (3) years of direct emergency response experience with a fire service agency, law enforcement agency, emergency management agency, EMS agency, or a federal or state forestry agency engaged in All-Hazards response and must have at least five (5) years of experience instructing ICS or position-specific training.
