<p>Syracuse City Corporation is an equal opportunity employer and affords equal opportunity to all applicants for all positions without regard to race, color, religion, gender, national origin, age, disability, veteran status or any other status protected under local, state or federal laws.</p> <p>Job Title: PT Parks Maintenance Worker I</p> <p>Department: Parks & Recreation</p> <p>Reports To: Assistant Parks Operations Manager and/or Parks Operations Manager</p> <p>Status: Part Time, Non-Exempt (Hourly)</p> <p>Wage Scale: $18.43 - $28.08 DOE</p> <p>Close Date: Until Filled</p> <p>Hours:</p> <ul> <li>Option A: Monday-Thursday, 7:00 AM - 12:00 PM </li><li>Option B: Monday-Thursday, 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM </li><li>Option C: Thursday-Sunday, 7:00 AM - 12:00 PM </li><li>Option D: Thursday-Sunday, 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM </li></ul> <p>Position Summary:</p> <p>This position is responsible for performing a variety of entry-level duties related to the construction, installation, maintenance, upkeep and repair of buildings, recreation facilities, parks, grounds, etc.</p> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Perform routine parks facilities maintenance </li><li>Ability to mark, dig, and backfill burials in the cemetery </li><li>Perform 'On Call' duties, periodically, throughout the year, which includes working as necessary on weekends, holidays and after-hours </li><li>Perform general landscape and gardening duties, including but not limited to: </li><li>Assisting in the maintenance of irrigation systems and repairs </li><li>Operating turf maintenance equipment </li><li>Pruning trees, shrubs and plants </li><li>Applying fertilization/herbicide and using dry and liquid chemicals </li><li>Winterizing irrigation systems and various park facilities/amenities </li></ul> <p>Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of machines and tools, including their uses, repair, and maintenance; </li><li>Knowledge of safety procedures; </li><li>Skilled in handling multiple projects with interruptions; </li><li>Skilled in prioritizing and organizing workload to meet deadlines; </li><li>Skilled in watching indicators to make sure a machine is working properly; </li><li>Ability to receive and follow instructions </li><li>Ability to lift and move 50-75 pounds </li></ul> <p>Physical Demands:</p> <p>The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable persons with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.</p> <p>While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to stand, sit, reach with hand and arms, talk, hear, see, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, use hands to grab and handle or feel and lift 50 pounds. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 75 pounds. Duties require sufficient mobility and require the employee to be able to coordinate two or more limbs while sitting, standing, or lying down. Specific vision requirements for this position include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.</p> <p>Work Environment:</p> <p>The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable persons with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.</p> <p>While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to generally loud noise or very loud noise (ex. Large earth-moving equipment, lawn mowers, weed trimmers, blowers, etc.). Work is performed primarily in outdoor settings and in all weather conditions. Employee may be exposed to hazards associated with lawn and building maintenance including smoke, noxious odors, fumes, chemicals, liquid chemicals, solvents, and oils. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Eighteen (18) years of age or older </li><li>Valid Driver's License </li><li>High School Diploma or GED, and </li><li>One (1) year of related experience; or </li><li>An equivalent combination of education and experience </li><li>Ability to obtain Off Highway Certification within 30 days of hire </li></ul> <p>Application Instructions:</p> <p>Qualified applicants must complete a Syracuse City employment application online at www.syracuseut.gov.
