<p>THE COMPANY</p> <p>The Low Income Investment Fund is a non-profit Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) that mobilizes capital and partners to achieve opportunity, equity and wellbeing for people and communities. LIIF innovates financial solutions to create more equitable outcomes for all by building and preserving affordable homes, quality educational opportunities from early childhood through higher education, health clinics, healthy food retail and community facilities. In this way, LIIF provides a bridge between private capital markets and communities. LIIF's headquarters is in San Francisco and has offices in Los Angeles, New York, Atlanta, and Washington D.C.</p> <p>REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:</p> <p>This position reports to the Vice President & Market Director - Western Region.</p> <p>JOB SUMMARY:</p> <p>The Deputy Director supports the Vice President in overseeing LIIF's affordable housing lending strategy and operations across the Western Region. This role combines leadership of lending activities with strategic planning, relationship management, product innovation, and supervision of regional staff. The Deputy Director plays a key role in achieving lending production goals and positioning LIIF as a thought leader in the affordable housing space.</p> <p>KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <p>Strategic Lending Oversight & Execution (25%)</p> <ul> <li>Provide leadership in the design and execution of LIIF's affordable housing lending strategy within the Western Region. </li><li>Guide the development of market-specific work plans, lending targets, and performance benchmarks. </li><li>Direct origination and deal structuring activities to ensure alignment with organizational goals. </li><li>Review and approve complex loan structures or exceptions, serving as a senior credit partner. </li></ul> <p>Regional Business Development & Fundraising (20%)</p> <ul> <li>Lead efforts to build LIIF's presence and reputation in Northern California and adjacent states. </li><li>Cultivate relationships with key funders, municipal partners, housing agencies, and philanthropic stakeholders. </li><li>Partner with the Development team on capital raising, grant applications, and strategic funding partnerships. </li><li>Lead or contribute to multi-party initiatives or collaboratives focused on affordable housing and community development. </li></ul> <p>Staff Supervision & Team Leadership (15%)</p> <ul> <li>Supervise regional staff, including Loan Officers and Underwriters, by setting performance expectations and supporting development plans. </li><li>Foster a team culture of collaboration, accountability, and innovation. </li><li>Lead or co-lead team meetings, strategic planning sessions, and staff check-ins in partnership with the VP. </li></ul> <p>Program & New Product Development (10%)</p> <ul> <li>Drive innovation in lending products to address unmet capital needs in the affordable housing market. </li><li>Analyze trends and gaps to design initiatives that respond to community needs and investor priorities. </li><li>Collaborate with national leadership to pilot and evaluate new lending tools and approaches. </li></ul> <p>Portfolio Performance & Risk Oversight (10%)</p> <ul> <li>Monitor the financial performance and credit quality of the regional loan portfolio. </li><li>Coordinate closely with the asset management and credit teams to ensure sound portfolio health. </li><li>Provide strategic input on workouts, restructures, and risk mitigation efforts for underperforming loans. </li></ul> <p>Market Positioning, Partnerships, and Policy Engagement (15%)</p> <ul> <li>Represent LIIF in coalitions, advocacy forums, and local/state policy efforts related to housing finance. </li><li>Serve as a thought leader and spokesperson for LIIF at public events, funder briefings, and sector convenings. </li><li>Build alliances with peer CDFIs, housing policy experts, and local stakeholders to advance LIIF's mission. </li><li>Provide regional insights and policy recommendations to LIIF's Policy team. </li></ul> <p>Other Duties as Assigned (5%)</p> <ul> <li>Participate in enterprise-wide strategic initiatives and planning efforts. </li><li>Assist with special projects or interim leadership coverage at the request of the VP or Executive Team. </li><li>Support DEI initiatives and contribute to a values-driven organizational culture. </li></ul> <p>QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <p>Education & Experience Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree is required; a Master's degree in business, finance, urban planning, public policy, or real estate is strongly preferred. </li><li>Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in affordable housing or community development finance, including 3+ years in a senior or strategic role. </li><li>Proven experience leading lending strategies, overseeing origination pipelines, managing direct reports, and participating in regional or organizational planning. </li><li>Experience underwriting and negotiating complex transactions with multiple capital sources and layered public subsidies. </li><li>Background in reviewing nonprofit financials, rental housing operations, and assessing organizational risk is preferred. </li></ul> <p>Technical & Sector Knowledge:</p> <ul> <li>In-depth knowledge of affordable housing lending landscape, particularly in California and the Western U.S. </li><li>Familiarity with federal, state, and local funding mechanisms and key players in the affordable housing ecosystem. </li><li>Experience working with CDFIs, Community Development Banks, or public agencies is highly valued. </li><li>Skilled in use of productivity software and databases; adept at managing financial models and presentations. </li></ul> <p>Strategic & Partnership-Building Skills:</p> <ul> <li>Demonstrated ability to build and manage strategic partnerships with developers, consultants, government agencies, and philanthropic stakeholders. </li><li>Brings a strategic mindset to originating mission-aligned deals that contribute to revenue and programmatic goals. </li><li>Track record of growing a book of business that balances impact, innovation, and credit quality. </li><li>Highly collaborative, effective at team leadership and cross-functional coordination. </li><li>Excellent interpersonal, time management, negotiation, and presentation skills. </li></ul> <p>ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:</p> <p>LIIF offers a hybrid work environment with flexibility to balance in-office and remote work. However, all employees are expected to work on-site at least two (2) days per week.
