<p>Health Assistant</p> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>High School diploma or equivalent </li><li>Post-secondary education in job related topics preferred </li><li>Eligible for a New Mexico Instructional Assistant's License </li><li>Current Red Cross First-Aid certification or equivalent and CPR certification or a willingness to obtain these certifications </li><li>Effective written and verbal communication skills </li></ul> <p>OVERVIEW OF JOB DESCRIPTION: To assist in the school health program. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Follow local, state and federal law and adhere to Public Education Department and Local School Board Policy. </li><li>Maintain confidentiality of information, builds and maintain sound working relationships with school personnel and the community. </li><li>Assist in maintaining school health records system. </li><li>Administer first aid for injuries and illnesses. </li><li>Assist with screening tests and make routine referrals. </li><li>Make appropriate referrals to the school nurse for follow-up of student health problems including medical or dental exams. </li><li>Carry out routine office procedures. </li><li>Assist with immunization records and recording on health records. </li><li>Perform nursing tasks as delegated by the school nurse. </li><li>May supervise students in self-administration of medications. </li><li>Arrange for proper care of ill students, including notification of parents, if necessary. </li><li>Assist in non-instructional duties, including but not limited to hall, lunchroom, and grounds monitoring as directed. </li><li>Perform other relevant tasks as assigned. </li></ul> <p>REPORTS TO: Principal</p> <p>TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Work year to be in accordance with current schedule for 189-day employees. Salary to be determined by individual training and experience level on current Assistant Paraprofessional Salary Schedule.</p> <p>EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board of Education's policy on evaluation of classified personnel.</p> <p>PHYSICAL LEVEL RATING: This position will require the employee to function at a "medium" physical capacity as defined by Workman's Compensation statutes.
