Posting Number 20166637S Job Description</p> <p>Ohio University Libraries are seeking user-focused and forward-thinking applicants with a commitment to continuous learning to serve as the research services student support and humanities librarian.</p> <p>Reporting to the head of research services, the research services student support librarian plays a critical role in executing the University Libraries' strategic initiatives and fulfilling the University's mission by delivering high-impact research library programming and services for undergraduate and graduate students. This position will establish and enhance relationships with student research and creative activity programs and provide general outreach and support services to those groups. As a member of the research services department, this librarian works with other team members in supporting University data research needs and provides consultations, training, and guides to enhance data literacy. The research services student support librarian will also serve as subject specialist with a focus on the humanities and provides instruction, reference, and consultation services to faculty and students in assigned academic areas. Serving as a member of the arts and humanities disciplinary team, they will cooperatively build sustainable collections for the University's research and instructional needs.</p> <p>Ohio University Libraries are interested in finding the best candidates for our positions. We encourage all potential applicants to consider how their education, work experience, and skills might meet and align with the minimum and preferred qualifications of this position.</p> <p>Position Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Provides high impact programming, instruction, workshops, and other support to undergraduate researchers and scholars, including OHIO honors and HTC programs. </li><li>Coordinates with campus partners and library colleagues to support student research initiatives and creative activity including the Student Research Expo EXPO, Dissertation Writing Retreat, and Graduate Research Series. </li><li>Supports the work of the department by providing data research needs and data literacy via consultations, training, and guides. </li><li>Provides expertise and best practices on the use of current and emerging research applications and technologies for the discovery, analysis, presentation, and visualization of data. </li><li>Collaborates with department members, library colleagues, and other University units to develop and provide services, programming, and digital learning resources to support undergraduate and graduate student research initiatives and creative activity. </li><li>Provides training to student researchers on library resources and scholarly tools such as Zotero NVivo+, Hathi Trust Research Center, or other research applications. </li><li>Serves as subject specialist to one more academic areas within the humanities; provides consultation, instruction, and reference services to faculty and students in assigned subject areas. </li><li>As a member of the Arts & Humanities Disciplinary Team, works collaboratively and cooperatively to build and maintain collections that support curriculum and research needs. Partners with team members to provide basic lower-level instruction and consultation services to students in the arts and humanities. </li><li>Engages in regular professional development through research, publications, presentations, and participation in regional, national, and/or international professional bodies as part of a continuing commitment to bringing best practices and innovative services to the Libraries. </li><li>Serves on Libraries committees, task forces, and/or other groups in support of advancing the Libraries' strategic goals. </li></ul> <p>The Environment:</p> <p>The research services student support librarian will be a critical member of a new Research Services department, located within the Libraries' Division of Research and Education. The Division, which includes Research Services, User Services, Learning Services, and Library IT, is in the second year of a reorganization to increase collaboration and forward-thinking library work. This reorganization reorients the work of librarians serving in outward-facing roles to emphasize and prioritize student and faculty-centered services for student success and faculty teaching and research excellence. This restructuring allows for greater flexibility and efficiency in the delivery of traditional subject librarian work such as collection development and traditional library instruction.</p> <p>Ohio University joined the most elite group of research institutions in the country by earning the R1 classification in the latest Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. The research services scholarly impact librarian will partner with other librarians to foster collaborations that support and work with researchers at the highest level.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Master's Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited school or from a master's level program in library and information studies accredited or recognized by the appropriate national body of another country.* </li><li>Experience and/or training/coursework related to the life cycle or analysis of research data. </li><li>Demonstrated interest in providing support for student research initiatives and creative activity. </li><li>Effective communication skills. </li><li>Commitment to continuous improvement and development. </li><li>A bachelor's degree and a minimum of 2 years of full-time, substantial, and directly related library experience in an academic library required in lieu of an ALA master's degree. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Teaching or presentation experience. </li><li>Experience working in an academic library. </li><li>Demonstrated success with collaborative projects or assignments. </li><li>Undergraduate degree or coursework in the humanities. </li><li>Collection management experience or coursework relevant to building and maintaining library collections. </li></ul> <p>Department Library Pay Rate</p> <p>The target salary for this position is $50,000 to $59,000 and is commensurate with the selected candidate's education and experience while considering internal equity.</p> <p>Ohio University is proud to offer a robust healthcare plan that includes maternity care, counseling and mental healthcare, prescription coverage, vision, dental, orthodontia care, and more.
