You'll also build your own future, with exciting opportunities for development and advancement.</p> <p>Your Opportunity</p> <p>Stantec is seeking qualified candidates for an experienced Senior Surface Mining Engineer for a Western US (based in one of our many Western US offices, hybrid, or remote) position. This position requires an individual with broad mining experience; a combination of operations, engineering, consulting and corporate office experience is a plus, as well as proven technical competencies to support our energy, industrial and mining sectors. Our projects are focused on many different commodities including metals, aggregates, and industrial minerals.</p> <p>The successful candidate will be responsible for providing project management, technical and economic solutions related to energy, mining, mineral processing, and financial analysis expertise. Willingness to lead and manage successful team projects, be a technical lead on multi-disciplinary projects, and perform business development functions of existing and new clients are desirable.</p> <p>Experience in aggregates, industrial minerals, and large multi-disciplinary project management are a plus and should be highlighted in your application.</p> <p>Your Key Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Under the direction of the Project Managers and / or Surface Mining Technical Supervisors </li><li>Diverse background in energy, industrial and mining projects </li><li>Ability to use and direct others in the use of mine planning software programs such as MineSight 3D (including MPSO), Deswik (including IS & LHS), Minemax, Vulcan, Carlson or similar packages to complete technical assignments </li><li>Ability to use Python programming/ scripting language. </li><li>Ability to direct others in the use of efficiency and financial programs such as Excel, Tableau, Monte Carlo, or similar packages. </li><li>Provide mine engineering and financial expertise through strong operational and project-based experience. </li><li>Strong technical writing and communication skills demonstrable through the reporting and presentation process. </li><li>Assist in developing and expanding our services with new and existing clients. </li><li>Manage tasks and direct and develop our staff as required. </li><li>Capability to develop project budgets, determine project scope, establish schedules, process appropriate paperwork, and comfortably interact with clients. </li><li>Ability and desire to engage in business development (e.g. develop proposals and identify project opportunities) with a focus on external relationships and key clients in the US. </li></ul> <p>Your Capabilities and Credentials</p> <ul> <li>Background in data analytics is a plus. </li><li>Ability to sign off as competent person for NV-4301, S-K 1300 or JORC reserves & resources reporting </li><li>Subject matter expert in pit and phase optimization using Whittle, MPSO or NPVS software (Whittle is preferred) </li><li>Extensive experience in one of the following: MineSight 3D, Deswik, or MineMax mine design software - Experience in creating optimized mine plans using Minesight MPSO or Deswik (IS Scheduler and LHS) software is required. </li><li>Experience in using MineMax is a plus and should be noted on your application. </li><li>Experience in using Vulcan or Carlson will be considered. </li><li>Prior work in prefeasibility and feasibility project phases is required </li><li>Experience in mine valuation studies is required. </li><li>Understanding of contracts and engineering delivery methods and various pricing structures for projects. </li><li>Attention to detail and strong QA/QC skills. </li><li>Understanding of project related risks. </li><li>Strong technical writing and communication skills. </li><li>An existing and well-established network in the mining industry, aggregate or industrial minerals is a plus. </li><li>Exceptional organizational, technical, leadership, written and oral communication and attention to detail skills. </li><li>Demonstration of innovation of the mining process for past projects or roles </li><li>Familiar with Mine Health and Safety Regulations </li><li>Valid driver's license required </li></ul> <p>Education and Experience</p> <ul> <li>Minimum of a B.S. in Mining, Civil, or Geotechnical Engineering </li><li>Minimum of 10 to 15+ years of experience with project management, aggregate, or multidisciplinary energy, mining, or infrastructure projects preferred </li><li>Currently licensed or willingness to pursue a P.Eng. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.</p> <p>Benefits Summary: Regular full-time and part-time employees (working at least 20 hours per week) have access to medical, dental, and vision plans, a wellness program, health saving accounts, flexible spending accounts, 401(k) plan, employee stock purchase program, life and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, short-term/long-term disability plans, emergency travel benefits, tuition reimbursement, professional membership fee coverage and paid family leave.
