<p>Interim Elementary Special Education Teacher (to cover a leave of absence) - 2025/2026</p> <p>School:</p> <p>Francis Wyman Elementary School</p> <p>Job Goal:</p> <p>The special education teacher coordinates and provides programming for children with disabilities, including instruction in academic, social language, motor skill development, and self-regulation.</p> <p>Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <p>1.) Assess the capabilities and skills of each assigned student for instruction and seek means to assist each student to learn</p> <p>effectively in the area assigned.</p> <p>2.) Design and implement programs for students eligible to receive Special Education services.</p> <p>a. This includes, but is not limited to, academic, social/emotional, and behavioral</p> <p>b. Collect data and use data to create specially designed plans and guide instruction</p> <p>3.) Conduct evaluations under the Special Education Laws and in such a manner as to:</p> <p>a. Review the educationally relevant information on students;</p> <p>b. Design and administer a relevant learning style and achievement assessment battery;</p> <p>c. Prepare a written report of findings;</p> <p>d. Summarize assessment findings and recommend pertinent educational strategies/programming at the TEAM</p> <p>meeting, which contributes to the development of an Individualized Education Program (IEP).</p> <p>e. Attend TEAM meetings of students evaluated.</p> <p>4.) Complete the paperwork process associated with special education including, but not limited to, the development of</p> <p>IEPs, timelines and progress reports.</p> <p>5.) Advise and assist teachers in the diagnostic and remedial measures and specific procedures used in overcoming learning</p> <p>difficulties or social maladjustments of students. Provides/implements modifications of curriculum materials to address</p> <p>the learning difficulties of students.</p> <p>a. Collaborate with general education teachers, social worker, Team Chairperson, School Psychologist, specialists, other</p> <p>related service providers and outside agencies consulting with your program to support your students over all</p> <p>developmental areas</p> <p>6.) Prepare and maintain such records as required or necessary to facilitate a flow of information among staff and others.</p> <p>7.) Communicate/consult with parents so as to:</p> <p>a. Keep parents informed of student progress;</p> <p>b. Involve parents, to the maximum extent possible, in efforts directed at IEP goal attainment and student success.</p> <p>8.) Develop a personal plan for professional development in collaboration with the Building Principal and Director of Special</p> <p>Education.</p> <p>9.) Attend all professional meetings that are scheduled by the Superintendent of Schools or Director of Special Education, or</p> <p>building Principal.</p> <p>10.) Ensure that all Massachusetts Special Education Regulations are followed and implemented.</p> <p>11.) Perform any other duties as requested by the Director of Special Education and/or building team chair.</p> <p>Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree in special education preferred. </li><li>DESE certification in moderate special needs is required. </li><li>OG certification preferred </li><li>Good organizational and communication skills, experience in delivering co-teaching, 1:1, and small group instruction. </li><li>A minimum of three (3) years of experience working with children diagnosed with disabilities as well as leadership experience/skills preferred. </li></ul> <p>Dates:</p> <p>May 25 through the end of the 2025/2026 school year</p> <p>Compensation:</p> <p>$125 per day until the teacher comes off the salary schedule</p> <p>Burlington Public Schools is committed to maintaining a work and school environment free from discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, pregnancy or pregnancy status, age, genetic information, ethnic background, ancestry, disability, homelessness, immigration status or any category protected by state or federal law.
