Sterile Processing Technicians ensure procedural equipment consistently meets the highest quality and safety standards, and is ready for use by all areas across the healthcare enterprise. This position receives and processes incoming supplies and equipment including performing cleaning and sterilizing duties, and is an integral part of the daily operation of all units.</p> <p>Duties include:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Maintain adequate inventory for assembly of instruments and equipment</p> </li><li> <p>Perform and participate in the decontamination and cleaning of all instrumentation received, which include but are not limited to instrumentation and equipment received from all units according to established standards and procedures</p> </li><li> <p>Prepare case carts and trays for decontamination and load them into washer and/or sterilizer as prescribed procedure</p> </li><li> <p>Perform the operation of the index washers, cart washers, ultrasonic cleaners as well as manually cleaning instruments and equipment as prescribed by established standards and procedures</p> </li><li> <p>Inspects all instruments for cleanliness, proper function, and breakage by viewing the instruments before assembly</p> </li><li> <p>Uses appropriate container, wrap or pouch according to the size of the instrument or equipment</p> </li><li> <p>Sterilizes instruments and surgical trays by following prescribed policies and procedures</p> </li><li> <p>Know how to run tests on all sterilizers, monitor and document that all parameters have been met</p> </li><li> <p>Use chemicals in the appropriate fashion taking into consideration the intended use of chemical as well as chemical s function: knowledge of appropriate PPE is also necessary</p> </li><li> <p>Participates in expediting the OR schedule by assisting the other members of the OR Team in obtaining the instruments/equipment necessary for the procedure in a timely manner Assembles and distributes case carts accurately and in a timely manner</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to travel between sites as needed, based on departmental needs</p> </li></ul> <p>Additional Job Description</p> <p>Required Minimum Training and Education: High School Diploma or GED, and certification through CRCST - HSPA (Healthcare Sterile Processing Association) or CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution).</p> <p>Physical Requirements: Continuous requirements are to perform job functions while standing, walking and sitting. Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, fully use both hands and legs, possess good finger dexterity, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, reach in all directions. Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required. Maintain 20/40 vision corrected, see and recognize objects close at hand and at a distance, work in a latex safe environment and work indoors. Frequently lift, lower, push and pull and/or carry objects weighing 50 lbs (+/-) unassisted, exert up to 50 lbs of force, lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs.
