<p>Elementary Literacy Specialist JobID: 2737</p> <p>Position Type:</p> <p>Elementary School Teaching</p> <p>Date Posted:</p> <p>8/19/2025</p> <p>Location:</p> <p>Charter Oak International Academy</p> <p>Date Available:</p> <p>08/27/2025</p> <p>Closing Date:</p> <p>Until Filled</p> <p>  Additional Information: Show/Hide</p> <p>The Elementary Literacy Specialist supports students, parents, teachers, and administrators by providing the support, guidance, and expertise needed to improve literacy achievement in all content areas.</p> <p>Duties of this position include, but are not limited to:</p> <p>Instruction/Assessment</p> <ul> <li>Plan for and provide targeted literacy instruction for identified students. </li><li>Screen students to identify those in need of literacy support and prescribe appropriate programs of intervention. </li><li>Assist in scheduling diagnostic assessments. </li><li>Administration and analysis of screening and diagnostic assessments to determine student needs. </li><li>Monitor and track students' literacy progress using data analysis and record-keeping. </li><li>Assist teachers in the assessment of student literacy performance. </li><li>Assist teachers in utilizing performance results to inform targeted instruction with appropriate materials to meet specific student literacy needs. </li><li>Assist teachers and administrators in analyzing district and state testing data relative to supporting literacy instruction. </li><li>Coach and model effective literacy instructional strategies across all content areas, as applicable. </li></ul> <p>Professional Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Assist in coordinating building-based literacy support programs </li><li>Coach and model effective instructional strategies in classrooms as they pertain to enhancing literacy. </li><li>Assist in planning and act as facilitator of professional development focused on effective literacy instruction, intervention strategies, and the implementation of literacy units. This may include building and, in collaboration with the Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment Office, district-level professional development. </li><li>Attend district Literacy Specialist meeting </li><li>Serve as an active member of the School Literacy Leadership Team (SLLT), contributing literacy expertise to school-wide planning and data analysis. </li><li>Serve as a resource for teachers to meet the literacy needs of all students along the achievement spectrum. </li><li>Inventory and disseminate the school's literacy materials </li><li>Support literacy tutors through training, student performance monitoring, and scheduling in partnership with building administrators. </li><li>Complete CT-SEDS reading/writing worksheets as appropriate, ensuring accurate documentation of reading goals, interventions, and progress. </li><li>Meet regularly with grade-level teams during literacy PLC to support learning around literacy instruction best practices to improve student achievement. </li><li>Collaborate with building leadership in scheduling SST meetings. </li><li>Participate in student support processes (e.g., literacy SST, PPT meetings as needed) and contribute to collaborative intervention planning to ensure continuity between instructional programs (e.g., tier 1 classroom and literacy intervention settings with ESOL, Special Education, etc.) </li><li>Complete progress reports and attend applicable parent-teacher conferences. </li><li>Communicate assessment data and reading progress to caregivers as needed/appropriate. </li><li>Other duties as assigned by building administration. "Other" refers to additional sub categories which must be mutually agreed to and which do not establish a precedent for the system. </li></ul> <p>Candidate Profile</p> <ul> <li>Strong background in Reading/Language Arts instruction </li><li>Skilled in tiered interventions/MTSS </li><li>Proficient in diagnostic reading assessments </li><li>Excellent instructional and classroom management skills </li><li>Highly organized, strong planning and time management </li><li>Effective collaborator with teachers/teams, families, and administrators </li><li>Strong work ethic; dependable and self-motivated </li><li>Clear and effective oral and written communication skills </li><li>Experience facilitating professional development for elementary teachers preferred </li></ul> <p>Educational Background and Work Experience</p> <ul> <li>Minimum five (5) years of teaching and literacy coaching experience (preferred) </li><li>Remedial Reading certification preferred </li></ul> <p>Requirement: Any grade and content-appropriate certificate</p> <p>Please include a current resume, transcripts, a copy of certification, and 3 letters of recommendation dated within the last 365 days.</p> <p>Excellent salary, benefits, and working conditions.</p> <p>Salary: negotiable per the teacher's salary schedule.</p> <p>Click here for a message from WHPS to our prospective employees!</p> <p>Equity and Anti-Racism Vision</p> <p>We, the members of West Hartford Public Schools, dedicate ourselves</p> <p>to the pursuit of equity.
