<p>INTERLOCAL CAP, INC.</p> <p>HEAD START CENTER BASE TEACHER</p> <p>SINGLE SESSION</p> <p>JOB DESCRIPTION</p> <p>POSITION SUMMARY:</p> <p>ICAP is a private, non-profit agency mobilizing private and public sector resources to help low and moderate-income people improve their living conditions. The Head Start division is a federal program for preschool children from low-income families. Children who attend Head Start participate in a variety of educational activities and services offered to meet the special needs of children with disabilities.</p> <p>The Head Start Teacher will create and implement developmentally appropriate comprehensive, educational plans which cultivate the emotional, physical, cognitive, and social growth of three, four, and five year old children from diverse backgrounds. The Head Start Teacher does so in an effort to maximize school readiness in accordance with the Head Start Act (December 12, 2007), the Head Start Curriculum, School Readiness Curriculum and Goals, Indiana Foundations, and the Child Outcomes Framework.</p> <p>REQUIREMENTS:</p> <ul> <li>Associates Degree in Early Childhood education or related field. </li><li>Must obtain a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education by agreed upon completion date. </li><li>Minimum of one-year interactive experience with young children. </li><li>Teachers must be in a degree or credential program or complete a minimum of six hours of continuing education credit per year. </li><li>Consent to and successful review of a Limited Criminal History review, National Sex Offender check, and FBI fingerprinting. </li><li>Must possess a valid driver's license and successful review of a BMV license review. </li><li>Must have reliable transportation and vehicle liability coverage. </li></ul> <p>DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Perform all services as directed by the Director of Children's Services, emphasizing excellent customer service. </li><li>Create and implement developmentally appropriate lesson plans based on established curriculum and program requirements. </li><li>Knowledgeable of and ability to reference Head Start Performance Standards. </li><li>Supervise classroom staff and volunteers; supervise center kitchen staff where applicable. </li><li>Assess and document continual student progress; home visits as needed. </li><li>Effective communication skills with families, program staff, policy council and the community. </li><li>Contribute to an environment of acceptance that supports and respects the gender, culture, language, ethnicity, and personal limitations of each child and their families. </li><li>Assist with development and implementation of the student recruitment program. </li><li>Adherence to timeliness and accuracy of reporting requirements. </li><li>Engage in individualized professional development opportunities as well as program-based and agency-wide training activities. </li><li>Maintain established classroom cleanliness standards and appropriate learning center configurations. </li><li>Work well independently and as a team member cooperating with department and agency staff, general public, customers and program vendors; ability to exercise independent and decisive judgements. </li><li>Must have project management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize; self-directed, highly motivated, energetic, enthusiastic and dependable. </li><li>Can accept supervision and direction with a positive attitude. </li><li>General administrative skills and abilities needed including basic computer skills and knowledge of software such as MS Word, Excel, and other program specific software. </li><li>All other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:</p> <ul> <li>Primary working environment is a climate-controlled classroom. </li><li>Able to physically interact with children including but not limited to: lifting up to 45 pounds, bending, stooping, stretching, squatting, and running. </li></ul> <p>SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to Education Coordinator</p> <p>SUPERVISES: Assistant Teachers</p> <p>POSITION CLASSIFICATION: SALARY:</p> <p>Direct Service - Level III (Non-Exempt) DOQ</p> <p>SPECIAL CONDITIONS: Reduction in the workforce resulting in job elimination may become necessary due to reorganization or loss of program funds.</p> <p>HOURS PER WEEK: 40 WEEKS PER YEAR: 44</p> <p>Benefits:</p> <ul> <li>Medical insurance </li><li>Dental and Vision insurance </li><li>Life insurance </li><li>401K </li><li>PTO and Vacation time </li><li>Paid holidays </li></ul>
