As our next Communications Systems Technician, you'll use your technical expertise on behalf of the largest IP-based public safety communications infrastructure in Pierce County.</p> <p>Here, your contributions won't go unnoticed. Emergency Management has a strong onboarding program to ensure employees have received department information, points of contact, and resources such as computers, phones, and other devices. In addition, the management team will work directly with the supervisors to provide opportunities for information sharing and regular feedback. This position has multiple career growth and promotional opportunities in Pierce County to build a great career.</p> <p>Core Daily Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Maintain, repair, install, calibrate and remove a wide variety of electronic equipment including, but not limited to, Emergency Communication Infrastructures base stations, mobile and portable two way radios, digital and analog transport and microwave radio systems, channel banks, digital multiplexers, transmit selectors, receiver voters, power systems, GPS/AVL, EAS AM, FM Broadcast systems, tower lighting, emergency power systems, radio frequency transmission lines and antennas and specialty equipment such as video/audio equipment. </li><li>Maintain accurate automated and manual records of work orders, labor hours, equipment preventive maintenance, repair, inventory, and modification of equipment and facilities; maintain Federal Communications Commission records, logbooks, and service records. </li><li>Use computer software, communications service monitors, spectrum analyzers, T1 and T3 analyzers, and various other test equipment to perform system diagnostics, interpret results, document changes, and make corrections, modifications, or repairs. </li><li>Operate testing and measuring equipment, including voltmeters, ohm meters, watt meters, oscilloscopes, signal and tone generators, and other testing devices. </li><li>Climb radio towers, install, maintain, and repair antennas, transmission lines, microwave dishes, wave guides, and tower lighting systems. </li></ul> <p>This announcement is not intended to reflect all duties to be performed by our next team member, but shall present a descriptive list of the range of duties that may be performed. To view the complete classification, click here.</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Two or more years of experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of two-way radio communications equipment. </li><li>A valid General Radio-Telephone license as issued by the Federal Communications Commission is desirable. </li><li>Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Washington State driver's license is required. </li><li>Additional education and experience may substitute for the recruiting requirements. </li><li>A resume and cover letter are encouraged but not required for this position. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Experience with Microwave, LMR, and/or Motorola systems is preferred </li></ul> <p>As a condition of employment, the applicant will need to authorize and complete a background check. Paid personal holidays shall only accrue for those employees on County payroll as of January 1 of each year or the first work day following January 1 and must be taken during the calendar year in which it was accrued.</p> <p>Furlough:</p> <p>Some Pierce County employees may be designated to receive 10 "furlough" days per year in lieu of holidays. Furlough days are available for use on January 1 and must be scheduled and taken within the calendar year. Employees who leave employment with Pierce County must reimburse the employer for used furlough days based upon the number of remaining holidays.</p> <p>Sick Leave:</p> <p>Sick leave accrues on a bi-weekly basis, at the rate of one day per month.</p> <p>Insurance Benefits:</p> <p>Employees and families are covered by medical (including vision), dental and basic life insurance. There are multiple medical plans with very affordable monthly premiums that offer coverage throughout Pierce County. Employees are eligible to enroll each year in a flexible spending plan, which enables them to use tax-deferred dollars toward their health care and dependent care expenses. Employees also have the opportunity to participate in supplemental life and long term disability insurance plans. For additional information, check out the Department of Retirement Systems' web site.</p> <p>Employees also have the ability to participate in the Nationwide Deferred Compensation Plan. This is a supplemental retirement savings program that allows you control over the amount of pre-tax salary dollars you defer as well as the flexibility to choose between multiple investment options.</p> <p>Social Security:</p> <p>All Pierce County employees are covered by the federal Social Security and Medicare systems. The county and the employee pay an equal amount into the system.</p> <p>ORCA Passport Program</p> <p>Pierce County employees may participate in the County's ORCA (One Regional Card for All) Passport program.</p> <p>Your Pierce County issued ORCA card is loaded with an annual Passport pass. The pass automatically renews every year.
