This position is classified as a nine and one-half (9.5) months, 29 hours per week.</p> <p>Specialty Program Paraeducators provide individualized support for students with diverse needs, focusing on academic, social, emotional, behavioral and life skills development. Paraeducators in this role will be expected to provide high levels of behavioral and academic support, helping students develop strategies for success while participating in mainstream classes with additional assistance as needed. Our specialty programs support students with educational, physical, and medical needs through an inclusion model, offering specialized instruction in practical academics, vocational skills, and independent living, alongside integration into general education settings for other subjects. Programming includes a research-based approach using principles where skills are broken down, repeated often, and performance is reinforced to maximize the acquisition of skills for students who have difficulty learning in the typical mainstream classroom setting. Learning opportunities are provided in small groups and on an individual basis within the program classroom, and students are also included into mainstream classroom settings for academics, specials and electives with support as appropriate.</p> <p>South Windsor is a diverse community of approximately 27,000 citizens and more than 5,100 public school students. SWPS is comprised of four elementary schools, one middle school (6-8), and one high school (9-12), all of which cultivate and support culturally responsive classrooms and learning communities. Assistance with toileting and lifting may be required. Applicant must possess an associate's degree, two years of college credits, or have passed the ParaPro exam.</p> <p>Salary: Entry rate is $23.81 per hour with incremental increases (see below). Prior experience in a comparable role will be considered.
