We're focused on building a team that values excellence, making a meaningful impact on our schools and community.</p> <p>POSITION DESCRIPTION:</p> <ul> <li>The Middle School Science Teacher is responsible for planning, organizing, and delivering engaging, standards-aligned science instruction for students in grades 6-8. The teacher fosters a classroom environment that supports student inquiry, critical thinking, and the development of scientific knowledge and skills. Using research-based strategies and district-approved curricula, the teacher promotes academic success and supports the students in accordance with district and state expectations. </li></ul> <p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Deliver daily science instruction in a middle school classroom using varied instructional methods, including lectures, discussions, hands-on experiments, demonstrations, and technology integration.</p> </li><li> <p>Develop and implement lesson plans that meet Tennessee Academic Standards and support student inquiry, exploration, and scientific understanding.</p> </li><li> <p>Design and facilitate lab experiences and project-based learning to promote scientific thinking, data analysis, and problem-solving skills.</p> </li><li> <p>Administer formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.</p> </li><li> <p>Provide differentiated instruction and targeted support for students needing additional academic assistance.</p> </li><li> <p>Create a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that encourages curiosity, respect, and collaboration.</p> </li><li> <p>Collaborate with fellow educators, instructional coaches, and school leaders to improve instructional practices and student outcomes.</p> </li><li> <p>Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, classroom activities, and academic concerns.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain accurate records, including grades, attendance, and other required documentation in accordance with district policies.</p> </li><li> <p>Participate in ongoing professional learning, school meetings, parent conferences, and district training sessions.</p> </li><li> <p>Enforce school rules, safety protocols, and behavioral expectations to support a positive classroom culture.</p> </li></ul> <p>QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Bachelor's degree in Education, Science, or a related field from an accredited institution required; Master's degree preferred</p> </li><li> <p>Valid Tennessee Teaching License with appropriate endorsement in Middle Grades Science (6-8) or Secondary Science</p> </li><li> <p>Evidence of innovative teaching practices and commitment to student engagement.</p> </li></ul> <p>DEMONSTRATED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Strong understanding of science content and Tennessee Academic Standards for middle school</p> </li><li> <p>Effective use of instructional strategies that support diverse learners and promote scientific inquiry</p> </li><li> <p>Skilled in using instructional technology, lab equipment, and multimedia resources to enhance instruction</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to manage a classroom effectively, promote student engagement, and build positive relationships</p> </li><li> <p>Excellent written and verbal communication skills</p> </li><li> <p>Capacity to collaborate professionally with colleagues, administrators, and families</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrated flexibility, adaptability, and professionalism in response to changing instructional needs</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge of school safety, supervision procedures, and student support services</p> </li></ul> <p>PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Frequent sitting and standing; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling and twisting</p> </li><li> <p>Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching</p> </li><li> <p>Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); occasional physical restraint of students to control behavior (only after training completed)</p> </li><li> <p>May work prolonged or irregular hours; work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold and inclement weather), exposure to noise</p> </li><li> <p>Work with frequent interruptions</p> </li></ul> <p>Equal Opportunity Employer Statement</p> <p>Franklin Special District (FSD) is an equal opportunity employer committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and respectful workplace.
