<p>Job Summary:</p> <p>Under general supervision, the P25 Radio/IT Technician will conduct tasks assigned by the Chief Information Security Officer and IT System Administrator. Installing, testing, and programming radio communications systems and vehicles, including L3 Harris P25 Radios. Providing training and guidance to other technicians. IT tasks will include and not limited to various requests for assistance with networking, printers, mobile devices, and desktop issues on the City Network.</p> <p>Typical Duties:</p> <p>P25</p> <ul> <li>Installing, testing, and programming radio communications systems and vehicles, including L3 Harris P25 Radios </li><li>Maintaining, configuring, and monitoring radio and microwave systems </li><li>Providing technical support and ensuring optimal performance of P25 Land Mobile Radio (LMR) systems </li><li>Maintains updated knowledge in P25 trunked system, point to point microwave. </li><li>Create technical field and maintenance reports, as required. Create, update, and/or review system procedures and documentation on an ongoing basis. </li><li>Training: Providing training and guidance to other technicians. </li></ul> <p>IT</p> <ul> <li>Perform basic hardware and software maintenance, installation, troubleshooting and user support duties related to the network. </li><li>Provide desktop support on an as needed basis. </li><li>Provide support, in-conjunction with City IT Employees and Managed Service Provider (MSP), various supported applications such as InCode, OpenGov Office 365 etc. </li><li>Provides support for communications and connectivity of applications required in the Police vehicles. </li></ul> <p>Requirements:</p> <p>Minimum combination of education and experience.</p> <p>Education:</p> <p>Course work completed towards a bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering.</p> <p>Experience:</p> <p>Knowledge of RF Systems such as transmitters, receivers, microwave systems, & antenna networks or knowledge on IT systems, Microsoft Severs, Active Directory, VMware, Red Hat Linux, Cisco, & TCP/IP. An understanding of IT workflows and principles, any combination of education and experience may be considered.</p> <p>REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES</p> <p>Knowledge of:</p> <ul> <li>Understanding of P25 Radio Systems </li><li>Understanding of both multi-site RF communications system and computer/networking skills. </li><li>Ability to read schematics, block diagrams, and flow charts to maintain or repair all supported electronic systems and equipment. </li></ul> <p>Ability to work with Windows, Non-Windows, and/or DOS based operating systems and applications used in an LMR environment.</p> <p>In addition to strong electronic and RF skills, a solid Networking background is required, up to and including LAN, WAN, WLAN, configuration management, etc.</p> <ul> <li>Ability to troubleshooting of malfunctioning communications equipment to sufficiently identify, resolve, and/or repair malfunctions, returning equipment to a pre-failure state of operation in the shortest amount of time possible. </li><li>Ability to accept responsibility and account for his/her actions. </li><li>Ability to follow instructions, safety practices and standard operating procedures in performing assigned tasks. </li><li>Ability to be punctual and attend work regularly. </li><li>Ability to work effectively with people regardless of their age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, or job type. </li><li>Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly. </li><li>Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. </li><li>Ability to educate end-users on applications. </li><li>Must be able to achieve Harris Certification on P25 Implementation within a year from employment </li><li>Must be able to pass a comprehensive background investigation to include criminal history checks through NCIC/TCIC and meet requirements as defined by Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) and the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE). </li></ul> <p>Work Environment:</p> <p>This position may require work to be performed in confined spaces, environmentally harsh indoor and outdoor conditions. Work may be subject to time pressures, frequent changes of tasks, working closely with others as part of a team, working alone 50% or more of the time, and/or performing multiple tasks simultaneously. Work may be tedious and exacting.</p> <p>Physical Condition:</p> <p>Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, squatting, climbing, and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires repetitive hand movement and fine coordination in preparing reports using a computer keyboard. Additionally, the position requires both near and far vision in performing computer installation and repair, and color vision is required to accurately interpret visual displays. Acute hearing is required when providing phone and personal service. The city participates in the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS) at a 7% employee deposit rate with a city matching ratio of 2:1. The city pays 100% of the employee's medical insurance and term life insurance. Full-time employees receive 40 hours of vacation at 6 months, then accrue each pay period based on the number of years employed up to 160 hours. 48 hours of Sick leave at 6 months, then accrue 3.70 hours each pay period. Full-time employees are eligible for 14 paid holidays. A full range of insurance benefits is also provided to full time employees. The city also provides a 9/80 work schedule where employees have every other Friday off.</p>
