<p>Job Description:</p> <p>PT Physical Education Teacher</p> <p>2026-2027 Academic Year</p> <p>St. Mary School, Bethel</p> <p>OVERVIEW:</p> <p>Saint Mary Catholic School, Bethel is seeking a part-time Physical Education Teacher (PreK 3 - 8th grade) for the 2026/2027 academic year. The candidate must have a love for working with children, be kind, caring, and patient, excited about Physical Education, and have knowledge of athletics. We are looking for a Physical Education teacher who wants to work in a positive environment that is rooted in Christ's teachings of love and compassion.</p> <p>RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Teach PE Classes to students in grades Preschool through eighth grade at Saint Mary School, Bethel. </li><li>Demonstrates effective planning skills by preparing lessons designed to implement stated goals and objectives and by incorporating school and diocesan curriculum objectives in lesson plans. </li><li>Recognize/support the unique Catholic Mission of the school by speaking, acting, and instructing consistent with the teachings of the Catholic Church. </li><li>Active member of a faith community; strives to model the teaching of Jesus by attitude and example. </li><li>Promote a safe classroom environment. </li><li>Current, thorough knowledge of curriculum and subject matter and able to communicate effectively with students; must organize classroom learning and materials to maximize student time on tasks and motivate student learning. </li><li>Encourage parental involvement in students' education and ensure effective communication with students and parents. </li><li>Develops and uses effective methods of evaluation that are directly related to curriculum objectives and to concepts and skills taught; consistently and effectively evaluates student progress. </li><li>Establishes a consistent disciplinary approach which promotes self-direction and positive self-image; sets high standards for student behavior and manages inappropriate behavior effectively as per school/diocesan policies. </li><li>Cooperates and works effectively with all staff members to promote positive relationships with students and parents. </li><li>At all times demonstrates professional responsibility in enforcing diocesan and school policies and regulations. </li></ul> <p>BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Proficient in computer technology and related educational technology. </li><li>Flexibility in assessing needs and strategies - adapt appropriately. </li></ul> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Practicing Roman Catholic, in good standing </li><li>Bachelor's Degree accredited college/university in Physical Education or related discipline to teaching assignment </li><li>Valid State Teaching Certification in appropriate grade level and/or subject </li></ul> <p>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Master's Degree </li><li>Demonstrated experience teaching in a Catholic School </li><li>Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level </li></ul> <p>Interested candidates should complete the CT Reap application, include a cover letter, current resume and 3 current letters of recommendation to the attention of: principal@stmarybethelct.org</p>
