<p>Position Title: Positive Behavior Intervention?Specialist</p> <p>Payroll/Personnel Type: 10 Month</p> <p>Job #: 108</p> <p>Reports to: Principal and School Culture & Climate Coordinator</p> <p>Shift Length: 7 Hours a Day</p> <p>Union Eligibility: Eligible</p> <p>Starting Salary: $40,712.57</p> <p>Position Summary:</p> <p>St. Louis Public Schools is seeking Positive Behavior Intervention Specialists to serve under the supervision of the principal. Positive Behavior Intervention Specialists will be instrumental in facilitating the integrated delivery of a coordinated program of student services, program development for student services, and development and implementation of student behavior interventions. The Positive Behavior Intervention Specialist facilitates the school-wide implementation of PBIS including support, planning and delivery of professional development, and collecting and reporting PBIS implementation data.</p> <p>Essential Functions:</p> <ul> <li>Attend Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS), district, and school professional development activities to acquire knowledge in understanding PBIS requirements </li><li>Provide support to school staff by providing immediate responses to student behavior concerns, de-escalating students, utilizing reflection activities, and developing individual plans for improved behavior </li><li>Lead the school PBIS team in the development, and continued implementation, of a Behavior Matrix, developing lessons aimed at developing desired behaviors, developing and implementing student recognition systems, and developing and implementing Tier 2 systems and interventions </li><li>Lead the school PBIS team in evaluating discipline data and developing action plans to address areas of concern </li><li>Work collaboratively with school staff to implement PBIS practices </li><li>Work collaboratively with the MU-Center for SW-PBS to develop action plans </li><li>Work with the Family and Community Specialist to provide assistance to students and parents in understanding district and school discipline policies </li><li>Collaborate with teachers regarding best practices for student intervention </li><li>Communicate with parents of identified students as needed, via telephone, home visits, or written reports </li><li>Perform other duties as necessary to ensure an effective behavior intervention program </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of Positive Behavior Intervention Support at all tiers </li><li>Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with all professionals, parents, students, and community members </li><li>Strong and effective presentation skills with the ability to impart information to parents </li><li>Passionate about improving urban public education, and is driven to make a difference </li><li>Ability to communicate in both oral and written form </li><li>Knowledge of and ability to use Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, SIS/other district data systems, and the Internet </li><li>Ability to maintain strong classroom management skills </li><li>Ability to read and understand lesson plans </li><li>Ability to work effectively under pressure with changing work demands </li><li>Ability to demonstrate positive thinking skills in critical situations </li><li>Project a professional image </li><li>Excellent organizational and time management skills </li><li>Ability to work independently or with a minimum of supervision </li><li>Familiar with district procedures and general forms </li></ul> <p>Experience:</p> <ul> <li>Experience working with at-risk students and/or one year classroom management experience </li><li>Experience working with culturally diverse parents and families in an urban educational setting </li></ul> <p>Education:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's Degree (required) </li></ul> <p>Physical Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle </li><li>Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body </li><li>Light work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree </li></ul> <p>Working Conditions and Environment:</p> <ul> <li>Work is routinely performed in a typical interior/office environment </li><li>Very limited or no exposure to physical risk </li></ul> <p>Disclaimer:</p> <p>The information contained in this job description is for compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and is not an exhaustive list of the duties performed for this position.
