<p>LOCATION: JOHN H. STROGER JR.</p> <p>DEPARTMENT: RADIOLOGY</p> <p>SHIFT: 8AM-4PM (Alternate Weekends)</p> <p>Job Summary</p> <p>Under direct supervision, provides health care services, applying ionizing radiation to assist in diagnosis or treatment of patients receiving care throughout Cook County Health (CCH). Performs medical imaging techniques including mammography and related procedures to demonstrate breast anatomy for interpretation and/or intervention by, or at the request of a licensed practitioner. Exercises professional judgement in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complimentary to medical ethics. Applies appropriate patient care and recognizes patient conditions essential for successful completion of the procedure.</p> <p>Typical Duties</p> <ul> <li>Performs mammography procedures according to the State and FDA requirements. </li><li>Asks patient to state name and verify name with ID bracelet and/or requisition. </li><li>Interviews clients, obtain breast history and complete forms associated with that visit manually, or in the computer. </li><li>Explains to patient purpose of visit, answers any questions. </li><li>Treats patient with sensitivity and concern, finds any appropriate services patient may need as </li><li>Cleans and prepares procedure room (on an as need basis). </li><li>Performs mammography exams, provide data collections, and collect patient data. </li><li>Performs the data entry on her client to ensure the visit results in a readable image for the radiologist, this step includes, but is not limited to the following: "fetching, "tracking", printing of film upon demand; prepare paperwork for reading by the radiologist; and removal of patient data from reading rooms after reading has been completed. </li><li>Participates, conducts and document quality assurance activities as required. </li><li>Trouble shoots and reports malfunctioning equipment to management as they arise. Handles equipment in a manner that is consistent with safe practices as well as sensitive to rough handling leading to malfunctions. </li><li>Performs mammography exams both on and offsite when applicable. </li><li>Performs special procedures related to breast examinations, assist radiologist with needle localizations, breast ultrasounds, stereotactic on an as need basis or when asked to do so by Management. </li><li>Ensures all completed exams are tracked to status of complete immediately after each exam is completed. </li><li>Consults with supervisor or radiologists to solve problems in the unit. </li><li>Performs related duties to mammography and mobile mammography (when applicable) as required. </li><li>May be assigned the responsibility of orientating Technologist and support staff in radiological procedures. </li><li>Performs special procedures, related breast examinations, assist radiologist with needle localizations, breast ultrasounds, and stereotactic biopsies. </li><li>Consults with supervisor and/or radiologist to solve problem. </li><li>Participates in the Department's quality improvement plan, and is responsible for specific quality assessment activities within assigned area. </li><li>Prepares and verifies all quality assurance and tracking according to Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the American College of Radiology (ACR). </li><li>Assumes responsibility for inventory, maintenance and repair of items used exclusively in assigned area. </li><li>Assists with transporting patients. </li><li>Performs related duties as required, general radiology, mobile mammography (when applicable). </li></ul> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</p> <ul> <li> <p>High School Diploma or GED equivalent (must provide proof at time of interview)</p> </li><li> <p>Completion of an American Medical Association (A.M.A.) approved School of Radiologic Technology (must provide proof at time of interview)</p> </li><li> <p>Registered by the American Registry of Radiological Technologist (ARRT) for Mammography and Radiology (must provide proof at time of interview)</p> </li><li> <p>Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification (must provide proof at time of interview)</p> </li><li> <p>Active and Current license in good standing with the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA)</p> </li><li> <p>Must be able to travel to work sites throughout Cook County Health (CCH)</p> </li></ul> <p>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>One (1) year of clinical experience as a Mammography Technologist </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics</p> <ul> <li>Basic knowledge of mammography </li><li>Knowledge of basic computer skills </li><li>Knowledge of patient restraint policy and procedures </li><li>Knowledge and use of pediatric immobilization devices </li><li>Good skills interpreting instructions and requests made by the Physician or Radiologist </li><li>Excellent verbal and written communication skills necessary to communicate with all levels of staff and a patient population composed of diverse cultures and age groups </li><li>Demonstrate analytical and organizational, problem-solving, critical thinking and conflict management/resolution skills </li><li>Demonstrate attention to detail, accuracy and precision </li><li>Demonstrates ability to position patients of various body sizes and ages correctly & manipulate equipment & controls to produce optimum radiographic images. </li><li>Ability to examine and evaluate technical aspects of radiological films </li><li>Ability to adhere to department policies and standards utilizing best practices incorporating the use of electronic health record (EHR) </li><li>Ability to follow Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards </li><li>Ability to meet appropriate confidentiality standards for protected health information (PHI) </li><li>This position requires various types of physical exertion including but not limited to lifting, pushing, pulling, prolonged standing, walking, sitting, and operating departmental equipment and/or other devices. </li></ul> <p>Physical and Environmental Demands</p> <p>This position is functioning within a healthcare environment. The incumbent is responsible for adherence to all hospital and department specific safety requirements.
