Has the responsibility for development, interpretation and application of section policies and procedures and is administratively accountable for both capital and operating budget development.</p> <p>EEO/AA/Disability/Veteran</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li> <ol> <li>Manages and directs the daily operations of the laboratory section, including work schedules, maintaining proper staffing, and supervising the daily work activities of staff. </li></ol> </li><li> <ol start="2"> <li>Responsible for hire of all personnel, administration of performance appraisals, compensation, promotions, transfers, termination and disciplinary action. </li></ol> </li><li> <ol start="3"> <li>Responsible for maximizing employee engagement through counseling, facilitating, meetings and employee survey action planning. </li></ol> </li><li> <ol start="4"> <li>Assists, directs, or oversees the training for residents, fellows, medical students, and medical laboratory scientists as needed. Provides orientation to new employees and ongoing in-service instruction to assigned personnel. </li></ol> </li><li> <ol start="5"> <li>In conjunction with hospital and lab IT, develops computer needs and facilitates implementation of department programs for lab reporting and interfacing. </li></ol> </li><li> <ol start="6"> <li>Responsible for overseeing Quality Management. Includes proficiency in generating, reviewing, and presenting quality data, reviewing and acting upon all quality metrics and using various statistical metrics to monitor staff competency. </li></ol> </li><li> <ol start="7"> <li>Responsible for maintaining regulatory readiness at all times. Has intimate and current knowledge of the requirements of all regulatory agencies including CAP, CLIA, DPH & JCAHO. Acts as a resource for other delivery network laboratories. </li></ol> </li><li> <ol start="8"> <li>Monitors, investigates and responds to non-conforming and patient safety events. </li></ol> </li><li> <ol start="9"> <li>Evaluates laboratory policies, procedures and equipment making effective recommendations regarding improvements. </li></ol> </li><li> <ol start="10"> <li>Responsible for maintaining the operating budget within the expense base. Provides timely feedback on all budget variances. </li></ol> </li><li> <ol start="11"> <li>Ensures adequate supplies and sound inventory control within budget parameters. Assess items for non-salary savings. </li></ol> </li><li> <ol start="12"> <li>Participates in contract negotiations for equipment and supplies. Ensure that all laboratory equipment is properly maintained to include service contractual arrangements. </li></ol> </li><li> <ol start="13"> <li>Represents the Department of Laboratory Medicine on hospital ad-hoc committees/projects as required. </li></ol> </li><li> <ol start="14"> <li>Maintains continuing education to improve management effectiveness. </li></ol> </li><li> <ol start="15"> <li>Works with other system laboratories, clinicians and other areas of the Hospital within the health system regarding various laboratory procedures and policies. </li></ol> </li><li> <ol start="16"> <li>Performs other administrative duties within the laboratory section as necessary. </li></ol> </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>EDUCATION</p> <p>Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or other Biological Science. ASCP certification required. Master's Degree in Business or Health Sciences preferred.</p> <p>EXPERIENCE</p> <p>5+ years clinical laboratory experience including 2-3 years in a leadership role.</p> <p>LICENSURE</p> <p>ASCP certification required.</p> <p>SPECIAL SKILLS</p> <p>Excellent organizational verbal and written communication skills.
