Diet Clerk Lead is at the forefront of customer service, providing Orlando Health patients and guests with service above and beyond expectations to ensure a memorable food and dining experience. Responsible for conducting ongoing training sessions of approved educational material to all pertinent team members. Provide instruction to new Diet Clerk team members in various areas by demonstrating technical skills, including monitoring patient diet prescription, diet order changes, nourishment orders, late tray requests and quality standards. Train new clerks on accurately placing patient and guest meal orders and checking patient meal selections according to physician diet orders. Responsibilities Essential Functions • Ensures trainee understands and demonstrates documentation of patient food allergies, intolerance's and food preferences in a timely fashion. • Teaches modified diet meal patterns to trainee, and assures trainee is able to demonstrate competency of ability to modify diets accordingly. Tally special food orders as needed. • Responsible for operation of the hospital's computer systems and understands operation of the fax machine. • Communicates proper information regarding patients to the Food & Nutrition Leadership team, Clinical Nutrition team, Nursing, food service peers or ancillary team members as needed. • Relates cooperatively and constructively with patients, staff and guests. • Promotes a positive impression of the Food and Nutrition department. • Performs as a team leader with the collection of patient meal trays, processing guest trays, reviewing patient meal selections and customer service techniques. • Training includes proper meal delivery, isolation precautions, customer interaction, and service recovery. • Models essential service behaviors such as excellent communication and customer service skills with patients, nursing staff, visitors and other team members, interacting cooperatively and constructively and communicating in an open, honest, gracious and compassionate manner at all times, including person to person, telephone and written forms. • Coordinates operation of patient services on a daily basis. Responds to patient complaints and follows up with appropriate Food and Nutrition Leadership team, Clinical Nutrition team, Nursing, food service peers or ancillary team members as needed. • Provides food service to patients as assigned by Team Leader. • Performs as a team member with peers. • Interact appropriately with a culturally diverse population. • Follow chain of command when communicating departmental and individual concerns or problems. • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards. • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures. Other Related Functions • Oversees Patient Food Hospitality Attendant duties and other duties that may not be directly assigned. • Participates in departmental meetings and all related in-services and PI activities. • Assists Food Service Supervisor or Manager in development of in-services to improve quality in designated areas. • Ensures portion controls, tray delivery standards, and guest tray processes are followed by staff. • Is knowledgeable of basic therapeutic diets to enhance patient meal selection and patient satisfaction. • Must be knowledgeable in preventing Food Borne Illness (F.B.I.) and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) precautions as they apply to food service. • Knowledgeable of Patient Satisfaction goals. Works consistently to exceed the department's and Orlando Health's objectives by reporting concerns and suggesting creative ideas. • Observes all departmental rules and regulations. • Recognizes priority and protects the patient's right to confidentiality. • Refers patient's problems to the Team Leader, Registered Dietitian, Clinical Nutrition Manager, or Food Service Director. • Recognizes that flexibility is paramount and change is continuous; the team member must embrace, encourage and drive change; approach situations and challenges with an open mind; work rotating shifts according to experience and business needs; be able and willing to be cross-trained in varied positions and performs any other duties as assigned. • Takes responsibility and accountability for trained staff and services related to patient services. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers. Must have basic math skills. Basic computer skills are necessary. Licensure/Certification None.
