<p>Adjunct instructor needed for each of the following courses for Fall 2025 (8/26/24-12/17/25)</p> <p>Applications will be accepted until June 15, 2025 or until the position is filled. All courses meet on-ground and in-person. Be sure to indicate which course(s) you are applying to teach in the subject line of your email. Experience teaching in higher education preferred. Teaching assignments are part-time, on a semester basis only, and are dependent on student enrollment and department need.</p> <p>ECE 315 Play and Social Development (course meets Wednesdays, 8:00-11:50am) 4 credits</p> <p>Course description: Examines the major types of play behavior of young children--exploration, motor play, construction play, pretend play, and games--and the impact of each on development. Focuses on designing classroom environments to support play, including spatial arrangement, scheduling, selecting materials and adult scaffolding. Cultural diversity in play and the play behavior of children with disabilities are explored. Students will complete classroom experiences during regular class time, under the direct supervision of the instructor.</p> <p>Qualifications: Master of Science degree from a regionally accredited institution in early childhood education, curriculum development, or a closely related field; doctoral degree or ABD near completion is preferred. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):</p> <ul> <li>Teach 4-credit course on campus consistently during the scheduled time; </li><li>Directly supervise students in their clinical placements; </li><li>Prepare lectures, projects, homework, assessments, and other student assignments that align with the course syllabus; </li><li>Grade all student work in a timely manner; </li><li>Provide appropriate feedback to students to promote academic success; </li><li>Learn and use technology resources offered at Eastern to facilitate teaching; </li><li>Monitor Eastern email and respond to inquiries within a reasonable time; </li><li>Comply with all departmental requirements; and </li><li>Provide an atmosphere that supports student success. </li></ul> <p>ECE 405 Adapting the EC Curriculum for the Inclusive Learner and ECE 506 Adaptations for Diverse Needs (courses are cross-listed and meet concurrently Mondays, 4:00-6:45pm) 3 credits</p> <p>ECE 405 course description: This course provides extended opportunities for students to apply basic methods in early childhood special education, within inclusive classrooms. This will include planning and implementing curricular adaptations in primary level classrooms based on principles of developmental and individual appropriateness. Family involvement in all aspects of early childhood special education will be an integrated aspect of this course. This course is taken concurrently with student teaching.</p> <p>ECE 506 course description: This course is an in-depth exploration of such topics as evaluation, program-planning, and curricular adaptations for young children with special needs. Application of current theories to practice will be individualized for students in ways which address their diverse backgrounds. This course is designed to provide (when combined with ECE 505) graduate early childhood certification students with the background in special education which will meet requirements for dual certification in the nursery school-kindergarten (N-K) range. This course is taken concurrently with student teaching.</p> <p>Qualifications: Master of Science degree from a regionally accredited institution in early childhood education, curriculum development, or a closely related field; doctoral degree or ABD near completion is preferred. At least three years of guided experiences/teaching in formal and informal settings that serve young children required. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):</p> <ul> <li>Teach 3-credit course on campus consistently during the scheduled time; </li><li>Prepare lectures, projects, homework, assessments, and other student assignments that align with the course syllabus; </li><li>Grade all student work in a timely manner; </li><li>Provide appropriate feedback to students to promote academic success; </li><li>Learn and use technology resources offered at Eastern to facilitate teaching; </li><li>Monitor Eastern email and respond to inquiries within a reasonable time; </li><li>Comply with all departmental requirements; and </li><li>Provide an atmosphere that supports student success. </li></ul> <p>EDU 222 Creative Expressions (course meets Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11:00am-12:15pm) 3 credits</p> <p>Course description: This course focuses on developing curricular materials for formal and informal educational settings to introduce children and youth to the concepts and theory of creativity as it is applied within the creative arts, including art, music, movement/dance, creative writing, and theater education and through design and innovation in STEM fields. The course will include student participation in focused creative activities, exploring their own creativity and how to foster this in children, youth and adults.</p> <p>Qualifications: Master of Science degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution in a creative (or related) field (e.g., art, music, English, theater, education, etc.); doctoral degree or ABD near completion is preferred. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):</p> <ul> <li>Teach 3-credit course on campus consistently during the scheduled time; </li><li>Prepare lectures, projects, homework, assessments, and other student assignments that align with the course syllabus; </li><li>Grade all student work in a timely manner; </li><li>Provide appropriate feedback to students to promote academic success; </li><li>Learn and use technology resources offered at Eastern to facilitate teaching; </li><li>Monitor Eastern email and respond to inquiries within a reasonable time; </li><li>Comply with all departmental requirements; and </li><li>Provide an atmosphere that supports student success. </li></ul>
