<p>Established in 1930 to protect the lakes and streams of the upper Yahara watershed, the District is a wastewater collection and treatment utility serving about 435,000 people in 24 Madison-area owner communities covering about 190 square miles. The District owns and operates 150 miles of pipe and 18 regional pumping stations that convey approximately 37 million gallons of wastewater to the Nine Springs Wastewater Treatment Plant daily. When you think about your career and what you want to accomplish in your lifetime, choose to do Work Worth Doing!</p> <p>Position Summary</p> <p>Well Water Sampling Intern</p> <p>Under close supervision of the Laboratory Supervisor, the Well Water Sampling Intern will gain hands-on experience in environmental field sampling and laboratory support activities while contributing to work that directly protects public health and the environment. This internship provides practical experience in proper well water sample collection, documentation, and data handling, with a strong emphasis on following established protocols to ensure sample quality and integrity. The position is primarily field-based and involves independent travel to residential sampling locations throughout Dane County and surrounding areas, coordination with homeowners, and daily route planning using GIS-based tools. The internship is designed for a student pursuing a science-related degree and requires full-time availability during the summer to support the District's well water monitoring program.</p> <p>Lab Intern</p> <p>Under the close supervision of the Lab Supervisor, this internship provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the intern's field of study while making a meaningful impact on our organization and local communities by helping to protect and improve water quality. The position supports laboratory, office, and occasional field activities and is structured to align with the academic calendar, offering flexible scheduling during the Spring and Fall semesters, full-time availability during the Summer, and optional full-time hours during Winter Break.
