<p>Job Title: Recreation Assistant</p> <p>Location: New Brunswick (NB)</p> <p>Department Name: Recreational Therapy</p> <p>Req #: 0000225373</p> <p>Status: Hourly</p> <p>Shift: Day</p> <p>Pay Range: $17.46 - $23.54 per hour</p> <p>Pay Transparency:</p> <p>The above reflects the anticipated hourly wage range for this position if hired to work in New Jersey.</p> <p>The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.</p> <p>Job Overview:</p> <p>Under the supervision of a Recreational Therapist, Child Life Specialist, or certified program instructor, assists in provision of community recreation programs for children and youth with disabilities. These programs may include but are not limited to adaptive aquatics, martial arts, camps, evening recreation and social activities</p> <p>Qualifications:</p> <p>Required:</p> <ul> <li>High school diploma or equivalent within 6 months </li><li>AHA BLS Provider Certification </li><li>Valid Driver's License </li><li>Previous work experience with children with special needs or previous experience with children </li><li>Must have strong time management skills, excellent interpersonal skills to work with a variety of team members and program participants and family members, and ability to take initiative to explore new opportunities for effective processes and overall departmental growth </li><li>Ability to plan activities and adapt to the environment to suit a variety of disabling conditions </li><li>Tact, enthusiasm, initiative and judgment in performance of duties </li><li>Working knowledge of basic Microsoft Office applications and comfort with PC use </li><li>Flexibility related to scheduled hours each week is required to meet patient needs </li></ul> <p>Preferred:</p> <ul> <li>Higher Education </li><li>Fluency in Spanish </li><li>Experience working with challenging behaviors </li></ul> <p>Certifications and Licenses Required:</p> <ul> <li>AHA BLS Provider Certification </li><li>Valid Driver's License </li></ul> <p>Scheduling Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Full Time </li></ul> <p>Essential Functions:</p> <ul> <li>Demonstrates knowledge of childhood development, physical developmental disabilities, ability to manage challenging behaviors effectively, and is able to apply it in daily practice </li><li>Assists with coordination of programs including phone calls, data entry, and other office tasks </li><li>Communicates effectively with participants, families, volunteers, and staff </li><li>Monitors and maintains inventory of general supplies and equipment as designated in competency expectations, ordering supplies in an accurate timely manner </li><li>Completes documentation on day of service </li><li>Cleans departmental equipment and organizes supplies as designated in the competency expectations, taking initiative to organize and clean other areas as needed </li><li>Assists department staff in planning and implementation of programs special events </li><li>Orients and supervises volunteers and community groups according to hospital policy </li><li>Ability to assess and evaluate overall participant level of functioning to determine appropriate activities and adaptations under the guidance of Recreational Therapist, Child Life Specialists or certified program instructor </li><li>Performs other duties as assigned based on need of department </li></ul> <p>Other Duties:</p> <p>Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
