<p>Description</p> <p>Title: Lecturer (Second Language Studies)</p> <p>Hiring Unit: College of Arts, Languages & Letters, Linguistics</p> <p>Location: Manoa</p> <p>Date Posted: 07/21/2025</p> <p>Closing Date: Continuous</p> <p>Salary Information: Minimum $1,978 per credit hour; commensurate with experience.</p> <p>Full Time/Part Time: Part Time</p> <p>Temporary/Permanent: Temporary</p> <p>Other Conditions: For placement in the department lecturer pool for Fall 2025, Spring 2026, and Summer 2026. Contingent on course offerings, sufficient enrollment, position clearance, and availability of funds. Appointment based on a semester basis. This is not for programs in the Hawaii English Language Program or English Language Institute.</p> <p>Duties and Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li> <p>Teach primarily Second Language Studies courses such as undergraduate major courses or introductory/core graduate courses as needed;</p> </li><li> <p>Hold regularly scheduled office hours to advise students in courses taught.</p> </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <ul> <li> <p>MA in Second Language Studies, Applied Linguistics, English as a Second Language or related discipline (for undergraduate courses); PhD in Second Language Studies, Applied Linguistics, or related discipline (for graduate courses);</p> </li><li> <p>Experience teaching undergraduate and/or graduate level SLS, applied linguistics, or language teacher education (or related) courses.</p> </li></ul> <p>Desirable Qualifications</p> <ul> <li> <p>PhD with specialization in area covered by SLS courses [e.g., second language acquisition, language learning technology, sociolinguistics, language education, second language processing, pedagogical grammar];</p> </li><li> <p>College-level classroom experience developing curriculum for second language studies or similar courses;</p> </li><li> <p>Familiarity with the UHM SLS undergraduate and graduate programs.</p> </li></ul> <p>To Apply</p> <p>Send a letter of application indicating which courses you would be qualified to teach and how you meet the minimum and desired qualifications, CV, names and contact information for three referees, and transcripts (copies acceptable at time of application; however, original transcripts required upon hire) by email toSLSCHAIR@hawaii.eduwith "Lecturer" in the subject line.
