<p>General Summary and Responsibilities</p> <p>This is a part time (20 hours a week) Outpatient Pharmacy Technician position and will require some weekend work.</p> <p>Customer Service & Patient Care:</p> <ul> <li>Promptly greets patients and families in person and by telephone with a friendly and helpful attitude. </li><li>Answers medication-related inquiries, requests authorization for refills, and provides guidance on prescription pick-up. </li><li>Responds efficiently to inquiries by health care providers with pharmacy questions. </li><li>Refers inquiries to the pharmacist as needed. </li><li>Accesses translation services as needed to ensure optimal communication with patients whose language is other than English. </li></ul> <p>Prescription Processing:</p> <ul> <li>Receives and processes prescription orders, and continually updates patient information verifying accuracy. </li><li>Manages the administrative responsibilities for faxing, filing, and/or documenting in medical record for non-electronic prescriptions, </li><li>MassPAT PMP requirements, 340B eligibility, or other pertinent procedures. </li><li>Offers every patient the opportunity to ask questions to the pharmacist about their medications. Ensures compliance with all regulations. </li></ul> <p>Insurance & Billing Support:</p> <ul> <li>Determines and updates patient's insurance information, calls insurance companies to verify coverage, processes claims through the patient's insurance. </li><li>Investigates and resolves prescription issues. </li><li>Collaborates with the pharmacist and prescribers to formulate a solution, such as an alternative medicine or co-pay discount program. </li><li>Communicates directly with patients providing clarification for prescription or co-pay issues. </li></ul> <p>Medication Preparation:</p> <ul> <li>Measures and counts medications and prepares and affixes medication labels for dispensing under pharmacist supervision. </li><li>Compounds simple or complex non-sterile medications in accordance with established policies, procedures and professional standards. </li></ul> <p>Medication shipping:</p> <ul> <li>Assembles packages or boxes containing one or more units or types of medications for shipment and may also label packages accordingly. </li><li>Follows procedures to check prescriptions, labels, patient information, and delivery information for accuracy. </li></ul> <p>Inventory</p> <ul> <li>Management: Maintains pharmacy inventory by monitoring medication and supplies stock levels, anticipating needed medications and supplies, and removing outdated/expired drugs. </li><li>Places and expedites orders, receives orders, rotates medications, restocks supplies. </li><li>Ensures the proper storage of all medications in accordance with policies and procedures. </li></ul> <p>Compliance:</p> <ul> <li>Complies with all federal, state, and local pharmacy regulations to ensure a safe, accurate, and compliant dispensing environment. </li><li>Performs routine quality control, cleaning and equipment maintenance tasks according to established procedures and schedules. </li><li>Prepares and maintains related logs and records. </li><li>Maintains neatness and organization of work area. Adheres to all privacy, infection-control, and annual competency requirements in accordance with hospital policies, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements. </li></ul> <p>Workflow Optimization:</p> <ul> <li>Supports process improvements to enhance efficiency, including leveraging pharmacy technology and automation. </li><li>Collaboration with Healthcare Teams: </li><li>Works closely with pharmacists, providers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless and timely medication delivery to patients and departments. </li><li>Participates in training and orientation of new technicians and pharmacy students. </li><li>Perform other duties as required by the position or as assigned by supervisor. </li></ul> <p>Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Current registration as a Pharmacy Technician by the Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy. </li><li>Current certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board or National Healthcare Association. </li><li>Completion of a Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy approved training program or a minimum of 500 hours worked as a pharmacy technician trainee. </li></ul> <p>Boston Children's Hospital offers competitive compensation and unmatched benefits</p>
