Join Tesla's Mission to Shape the Future of Robotics.?At Tesla, we are not just accelerating the world's transition to sustainable energy; we are also at the forefront of developing advanced robotics to augment human capabilities. The Optimus program is a cornerstone of this vision, and its success hinges on innovative engineering, right down to the specialized tools and equipment used for its assembly, testing, and service. As a Mechatronics Tooling Engineer for Optimus, you will be instrumental in creating these vital solutions.

Pioneer the Tools That Build and Maintain the Future: Optimus.?This is a unique opportunity to blend your mechanical and electrical engineering expertise to design and build the essential infrastructure for our humanoid robot. You won't just be designing on a screen; you will be deeply involved in the hands-on creation, iteration, and deployment of sophisticated tooling. If you thrive on practical problem-solving and have a passion for bringing complex electro-mechanical systems to life, this role offers a direct path to impacting one of the most ambitious robotics projects in the world.

Conceptualize, design, and develop innovative tooling and equipment specifically for the assembly, calibration, testing, and servicing of the Optimus robot, encompassing both mechanical structures and electrical/electronic integration

Lead the hands-on fabrication, assembly, wiring, and validation of prototype and production-ready tooling, fixtures, and test systems

Integrate sensors, actuators, control systems, and data acquisition components into tooling solutions to enhance functionality and diagnostic capabilities

Collaborate intimately with Optimus design engineers, manufacturing teams, and robot technicians to deeply understand requirements, identify challenges, and rapidly iterate on solutions

Develop comprehensive documentation, including 3D CAD models, electrical schematics, build procedures, and user guides for the tooling you create

Actively participate in the troubleshooting, refinement, and continuous improvement of tooling based on performance data and user feedback in a dynamic R&D and production environment

Bachelor's Degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience

Proven experience (e.g., 3+ years, or specify desired range) in designing and building custom tooling, fixtures, or automated equipment with integrated mechanical and electrical components

Significant hands-on experience in a role such as an engineering technician, service technician, or mechatronics specialist, with demonstrated expertise in building, wiring, debugging, and commissioning complex electro-mechanical systems

Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks, or similar) for mechanical design

Competency in creating and interpreting electrical schematics and wiring diagrams

A strong first-principles approach to problem-solving, with a bias for action and practical implementation

Excellent ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment
