<p>This role supports Church Public Affairs and Reputation Management, helping lead the Church's global efforts to understand, influence, and strengthen its reputation across media, digital platforms, and public discourse.</p> <p>The position understands social listening, influencer engagement, digital strategy, and rapid response communications, and is able to work with and present to the highest levels of Church leadership.</p> <p>The role exists to:</p> <ul> <li>Strengthening trust and understanding of the Church worldwide </li><li>Anticipate and respond to reputation risks and opportunities </li><li>Build and manage strategic relationships that influence public perception </li></ul> <p>Represent the Church with clarity, accuracy, and Christlike tone in complex or sensitive situations</p> <p>Position is in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. Requires in-office attendance.</p> <ol> <li>Reputation Intelligence & Social Listening </li></ol> <ul> <li>Oversee systems and strategies to monitor global conversation about the Church across media, social platforms, and emerging channels </li><li>Analyze sentiment, themes, risks, and opportunities; translate insights into actionable recommendations </li><li>Identify and track emerging issues, narratives, and misinformation trends </li></ul> <ol start="2"> <li>Strategic Communications & Response </li></ol> <ul> <li>Lead drafting and approval processes for official Church statements, messaging, and media responses </li><li>Ensure responses reflect doctrine, tone, and leadership direction while addressing real-world concerns effectively </li><li>Coordinate rapid response efforts for issues, crises, and sensitive topics </li></ul> <ol start="3"> <li>Public Affairs & External Relations </li></ol> <ul> <li>Build and maintain relationships with media, organizations, and key stakeholders that influence reputation </li><li>Represent the Church in meetings, coalitions, and public-facing opportunities as assigned </li><li>Support alignment with broader Public Affairs efforts, including government, policy, and international relationships where relevant </li></ul> <ol start="4"> <li>Executive Representation & Leadership Support </li></ol> <ul> <li>Act as a trusted proxy for the Director of Reputation Management in internal and external settings </li><li>Present insights, strategies, and recommendations to executive committees and senior Church leadership </li><li>Help set vision, priorities, and direction for the reputation management function </li></ul> <ol start="5"> <li>Issue & Crisis Management </li></ol> <ul> <li>Lead cross-functional coordination during reputational challenges </li><li>Develop frameworks for managing ongoing issues, sub-issues, and narrative shifts </li><li>Ensure consistency and alignment across departments and global teams </li></ul> <p>Required:</p> <ul> <li>Degree in public relations, international relations, government affairs, political science and/or related field or experience. </li><li>Significant experience in public relations, communications, or reputation management; minimum 10 years relevant experience </li><li>Deep understanding of media ecosystems, digital platforms, and public discourse </li><li>Proven ability to draft high-level communications and represent an organization publicly </li><li>Strong strategic thinking and decision-making skills under pressure </li><li>Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building abilities </li></ul> <p>Preferred:</p> <ul> <li>Related graduate degree and/or experience </li><li>Experience with social listening tools, analytics, and digital strategy (SEO, content ecosystems) </li><li>Experience managing complex or global reputation issues </li><li>Familiarity with Church doctrine, structure, leadership, and communication tone </li></ul> <p>Key Attributes:</p> <ul> <li>Sound judgment and discretion in sensitive situations </li><li>Ability to operate at both strategic and tactical levels </li><li>Strong alignment with Church mission and values </li><li>Calm, credible, and confident presence with senior leaders and external stakeholders </li><li>Adaptability in a fast-moving media and digital environment </li></ul>
