Kline Institute for Psychiatric Research (NKI) is a dedicated research facility of the New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH) located on the grounds of Rockland Psychiatric Center in Orangeburg, NY. NKI is affiliated with the New York University Langone Medical Center (NYULMC), located in midtown Manhattan. Applications are currently being invited for a full-time Research Scientist 3 position in our Institutional Review Board department.</p> <p>The Research Strategy Specialist (RSS) assists researchers throughout the life cycle of a research project. The RSS guides researchers through varying departments within the research infrastructure by serving as a resource as the project moves through the four phases of the projects life cycle: inception, startup, maintenance, and closeout. Individuals in the RSS team will aid with the initial, modification, or closing submissions for research proposals. They will assist in contacting the appropriate parties for negotiation of award agreements and management of non-financial post-award actions. The incumbents will work closely with the IRB, Compliance, and the RFMH/OMH Grants and Contracts offices across the New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH) entity to assure continued guidance for researchers. Working under the direction of the OMH Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) lead, the RSS will develop, refine, and implement policies and procedures that provide personalized assistance to OMH researchers.</p> <p>Additionally, the RSS will act as a liaison between the IRB, Compliance, and the RFMH/OMH Grants and Contracts offices to ensure all grant congruence requirements are met and are consistent with varying department submissions and approvals.</p> <p>Other responsibilities include but are not limited to guidance on oversight of studies posted on the ClinicalTrials.gov site, and assistance with the development/implementation of education for research investigators and study staff.</p> <p>The responsibilities of the RSS are divided based on the phase of a project</p> <p>Duties and Responsibilities include:</p> <ul> <li>Inception Phase: The Research Strategy Specialist will provide researchers guidance on relevant factors that should be considered as they plan a research project. Information will be provided related to departments to consult with and information that should be prepared prior to submission of a proposed human subject research project, including but not limited to consents, advertisements, and plans for accessing data. </li></ul> <p>o Assistance to the research community will include providing guidance on human and non-human research concepts, directing researchers to the appropriate IRB representatives to obtain official outcomes, and providing information on pertinent New York state, OMH, RFMH, and facility requirements, laws, and regulations.</p> <p>o Assistance will also be provided to guide researchers towards the appropriate local resources for obtaining Material Transfer Agreements, Data Use Agreements, Business Associate Agreements, and other contracts that may be required to establish or maintain proprietary.</p> <ul> <li>Startup Phase: The Research Strategy Specialist will advise researchers on: </li></ul> <p>o Strategies to mitigate risks throughout the study implementation and conduct.</p> <p>o Advisement on appropriate ancillary documentation and other federal, state, and institutional requirements for submission.</p> <p>o Provision of real-time training as researchers complete Site Initiation Visits and initiate enrollment.</p> <p>o Facilitation and completion of ongoing requirements for clinicaltrails.gov reporting</p> <p>For funded projects, the Research Strategy Specialist will work with research teams to ensure grant congruency processes between IRB and grant administration.</p> <ul> <li>Maintenance Phase: The Research Strategy Specialist will be available as a resource to discuss possible changes in a study to ensure that alterations are considered by the research team with the same comprehensive plan that was taken at initiation.
