<p>Job Summary</p> <p>Position Title</p> <p>Perinatal Surgical Technologist</p> <p>Job Summary</p> <p>The primary purpose of the position is to function in the scrub capacity during a surgical intervention, in the birth center and in the main OR, under the direct supervision of the registered nurse within the framework of the Ohio Nurse Practice Act.</p> <p>Primary Duties</p> <ul> <li>Knowledgeable and maintains skill in the handling of instruments and suture material. </li><li>Demonstrates by example, the application and rigid control of the principles and practices of aseptic technique. </li><li>Setting up and tearing down OR rooms to maintain the timeliness of the OR schedule. </li><li>Maintains strict control of needles and sharps. Disposes of them according to procedure. </li><li>Prioritizes the work load and facilitates in maintaining stock supplies in a cost effective manner. </li><li>Demonstrates knowledge of procedure by anticipating throughout the surgery case any additional supplies, suture and/or equipment that may be needed. </li><li>Practice cost containment by opening only needed supplies for a surgical procedure. </li><li>Maintain competency in scrubbing on surgical cases in the main OR as well as those cases performed in the birth center. </li><li>Float to the main OR when needed to meet the needs of both units. </li><li>Other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>The above reflects the general duties considered necessary to describe the main functions of the job and is not considered a detailed description.</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Graduate of an approved school of Surgical Technology. </li><li>Minimum of 18 years of age. </li><li>Display an attitude of interest and respect for people. </li><li>Flexible schedule required. </li><li>Demonstrates mission and values of Aultman Hospital. </li><li>Good physical and mental health. </li></ul> <p>Working Conditions</p> <ol> <li> <p>Has variable shift rotations that may include, but are not limited to varying 8 hour and 12 hour shifts covering day shift, afternoon shift and night shift.</p> </li><li> <p>Stands for long periods of time.</p> </li><li> <p>Breaks and lunches are coordinated with other personnel and work load activity.</p> </li><li> <p>Blood and body fluid exposure= 1.</p> </li><li> <p>Frequent changes in duties throughout working hours.</p> </li><li> <p>Involved with personnel, patients and physicians under all circumstances/conditions, especially high stress situations.</p> </li><li> <p>On call requirements to meet the needs of the unit.</p> </li><li> <p>Float to the main OR.</p> </li></ol> <p>Annual Requirements</p> <p>The completion of all annual requirements is mandatory every year.
