This position will perform a variety of maintenance related to the preservation and upkeep of County highways, bridges, drainage structures and other highway features, and DOT facilities. This position performs semi-skilled work in operating tools and highway maintenance. This position will also perform essential snow and ice control operations. All duties are performed in accordance with the county safety code and established safe work practices.</p> <p>Starting Salary: $26.00/hour This is a union position under Local 150. Hourly wage is not negotiable.</p> <p>Winter Hours: 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.</p> <p>Summer Hours: 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.</p> <p>JOB FUNCTIONS:</p> <p>In order to be successful in these positions the candidates must have the ability to:</p> <ul> <li>Perform strenuous physical labor outdoors in all weather conditions (24 hours a day). </li><li>Operate snowplow trucks with plows and salt spreaders, tractors, chippers and 2 cycle tools, etc. </li><li>Wash, grease, and assist in maintenance/servicing equipment including minor repairs and preventative maintenance; </li><li>Repair, replace and patch asphalt and concrete surfaces and fill in aggregate shoulder ruts; </li><li>Direct and control traffic during road maintenance; </li><li>Remove and dispose of trash, dead animals and other debris found on highways; </li><li>Trim and chip trees and shrubs; the ability to work from ladders; </li><li>Perform difficult physical labor and work under extreme weather conditions. </li><li>Performs other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>EDUCATION:</p> <ul> <li>High School Diploma or GED. </li></ul> <p>EXPERIENCE:</p> <ul> <li>Applicants must possess a Valid CDL Class "A" or "B" license with non-restrictive air brakes and if only a CDL "B" the ability to obtain a Class "A" CDL within six months of employment. </li><li>Applicants must possess or obtain A CDL N (Tanker) endorsement. </li><li>Experience driving tandem axle trucks and truck tractors with trailer. </li><li>Working knowledge of automotive truck and equipment parts along with diesel engine operation and maintenance. </li><li>Snow removal and highway maintenance experience. </li><li>General computer skills and mechanical knowledge. </li></ul> <p>BENEFITS:</p> <ul> <li>Pension: Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) </li><li>Nationwide Retirement Solutions (457 and Roth457) plans </li><li>Standard Life insurance policy with the option to buy up additional coverage for EE and dependents. </li><li>Tuition Reimbursement and Student Loan Repayment Programs </li><li>Paid vacation, sick, personal days and 13 paid holidays. </li></ul> <p>Candidates must be able to pass both the background check and Pre-employment physical prior to official job offer.</p> <p>McHenry County is an equal opportunity employer.
